Monroe, GA.- Georgia is one of the most talented states in the country this year. They have great upper end talent all over the state and have just as many top sleeper recruits scattered through the state. One of the top defensive players is Monroe high star Stephon Tuitt. Tuitt is part of the ESPNU 150 and is a four star rated player. He’s got fantastic size at 6’6″ 260 pounds. He’s in no position to narrow down his schools just yet, but has his eye on a few schools a little more right now.
“I’m still open. I’ve been talking to some other top caliber guys at camps. I’m just trying to get to know the schools. I’m looking at Miami, Notre Dame, Clemson, and Tennessee right now. I’m looking at Auburn a little more now too. I haven’t visited there yet, but I’m probably taking one more visit this summer and it will probably be to Auburn. I don’t know if I will decide before my season starts, I want to take some official visits first. I guarantee Notre Dame and Georgia Tech will get officials. And Miami too.”
All of the colleges recruiting Tuitt have offered him as a defensive end. He broke down his ability at the position.
“One of my strengths are my strength, and my relentless pursuit of the ball. My height, my speed, and pass rushing skills are solid. Coaches also comment on how I am a ball-hawk. Right now I’m working on my pad level, technique, and being more agressive.”
Tuitt mentioned that after taking a few visits he will sit down with his parents and make a decision soon after.
He also claims that Georgia Tech, Miami, Notre Dame, and Auburn are recruiting him hard at this time.
ESPN Scouts Inc Evaluation:
Tuitt is an interesting defensive line prospect. He is a big defensive end who you can’t help but think will be a defensive tackle in time, but as you watch him you don’t want to discount his ability to stay at end. He has good size and looks to have a good reach. While he comes across as a big kid he also displays the room to add more bulk in time and that is why you see him possibly growing into a tackle down the road. The thing that grabs your attention is that this kid can move for his size. He shows good speed and range and while he is big he is actually at his best playing free of blockers and pursuing. He moves well laterally and can work along the line and has the speed to be a factor on the perimeter and in pursuit downfield. He has a good motor and works to get in on plays. He is at his best when he can get to half-a-man and into the gap and get penetration. He will work to stay square and try and use his hands when engaging blockers, but can struggle a bit to hold his ground especially against the double team. He needs to watch his pad level and be better with his hands in engaging and separating. He does though keep working and even if you get initial push you better block him until the whistle because he will come off and get in on the play if you don’t. As a pass rusher he has the closing burst to get to the quarterback if he gets a seam. Needs to keep working with his weapons and increase his pass rush arsenal to help him clear from blockers when he does not get that quick opening. Tuitt is a big boy who can move. May ideally fit as an end in a three man front, but if he plays in a four man front still may be a future defensive tackle, but either way offers some versatility. Has aspects of his game to improve, but good ability and prospect.
