Greenville, SC.- The long awaited commitment of JL Mann safety Pat Martin is now in the books. Tonight Martin made public what has long been a private commitment to the Tennessee staff. Volnation caught up with Martin shortly after his public commitment.
“It feels good to get out in the public what I’ve had for so long. I committed back on June 25th. Coach Dooley and coach Joesph were real surprised. Coach Dooley gave me a big hug and said welcome to the family. I just felt comfortable with the coaches and the way they wanted to use me in the defense. They want me to play like a field safety, covering tight ends and blitzing a lot out of the backfield.”
At 5’11” 201 pounds, Martin offers a lot of versatility at the safety spot. He has room on his frame to add weight and possibly play like a faster outside linebacker from the safety spot.
He is still deciding if he will take other official visits besides one to Tennessee.
“I haven’t decided on that yet. I’m open to taking some visits, but I’ll visit Tennessee for sure. I’m thinking I’ll visit for the Alabama game or Oregon game. I’m not sure yet. I don’t plan on enrolling early so I have lots of time.”
Martin admitted that he has been recruiting other top prospects such as Lateek Townsend, Blake Countess, Gabe Wright, and DeAnthony Arnett.
