Extending Cuonzo Martin - How Long?

Two seasons. I have a feeling Purdue will come calling for CCM in the next seasons and I think that he would leave UT for his alma mater.

I have one good reason. Because you want them to. You dip**** know nothings will always have that in your favor. You know not what you speak of.

A TUMS moment. Richardson will have to be the man next year. I don't know what that means to him, but it means 18ppg at least to me.

Eh I disagree. You don't have to have a 18ppg scorer to be good. I agree he may be our leading scorer, but I don't think he will have to push like we saw McRae do in the past. I think you'll see much more balanced scoring, and more contributions from our bench.

No way a five year extension he still has two years on his contract. 3 year max extension but would be more comfortable with 2 year ext. But no increase in buy-out.

Well, here's where it gets interesting. What you think doesn't matter and never did. I'd give him and 2-3 extension with a bump to close to 2 mil. His buyout would fall in line with a 2mil salary. Nobody will ask you what you are more comfortable with.

I'm glad I got your attention and believe you me I no problem facing you. I stand behind everything I said...deal with it.

I agree with that. If there's balanced scoring from the starters and bench then you don't need a 'leading scorer'. But somebody will have to step forward as the face of UT next season.

Ideally Hubbs lives up to the billing and plays like a lottery pick

Ideally:

PG: Thomposon - 6'4 Pass first PG
SG: Hubbs - 6'6(Slasher with size / developing shooter )
SF: Richardson - 6'6 (slasher with size / developing shooter)
PF:? (Ideally this is a stretch 4, doesn't have to be a great rebounder because of the abilities of Hubbs and Richardson to rebound).
C: Stokes- 6'8 (dominant post scorer / rebounder)

That's slightly above .500 and what I think is a very fair prediction of next years record.

So would 17-14 qualify as a rebuilding year?

BTO, where is that line for you? How many wins next year = good vs how many equals it was a rebuild/bad year?

17-14 year 4 to me is not good. Do you think we should be making the tourney consistently by then?

Ideally Austin is a beast and starts day 1, but that's jmo

It's really hard for a freshman point to start. I see him coming off the bench and leading the second unit. Thompson has the best vision on this years team, plus he has great size for a PG. That sort of length with Hubbs and Richardson make for a killer defense.

Rebuilding year to me means much worse than any other year you've had. We've had 19 wins seasons under Zo, so a rebuild to me would mean around 14-15 wins max.

The hope is to make the tourney consistently, but depending on the end result of this run I think you can live with a miss next year if he sets up to make the dance in 2016.

London Perrantes is a true freshman PG starting for a #1 seed in the NCAAT. He was very similarly ranked to Austin coming out of high school and is a very similar player.

Thompson is slow and has a horrible looking shot. Austin starts day 1......IMO

Thanks for the answer. part of that is my fear, we should be able to make it yearly with the occasional miss and not every other. We should have made it last year but a pass was fair with the injury. Next is all his and we are gonna miss? I don't know. This hot streak and run is awesome to behold I just don't want a Hamilton buyout type situation with a extension.

I have zero idea what will happen, and I certainly think he deserves to stay. But I can't help but feel, to a certain degree, we DESERVE for him to tell us to F off and bolt. I guarantee if Pearl hadn't already taken another job, half our fans would still be wanting Martin fired.

In the lineup I posted, you don't need the PG to score. You just need him to get the ball to people who can score. You can't teach Thompson's court vision, and he can improve his shooting.

It's why I'm saying, let's worry about next year, next year. What happens if Stokes returns, we land a stud graduate transfer, and Martin pulls in a 5* who gets a release from a school via a coaching change.

There's a lot that can happen the can change the outlook of next season in either direction. Right now I'm gonna enjoy this season, and when it ends there will be plenty of time to worry about next.

Jmo

I didn't say I was ok with that, but I don't think you fire a coach after that after making a tourney run just the year before.

Look, you're a negative individual we all get it, let's enjoy this run and worry about next year....next year :hi:

I am not a negative person however I have posted my share of criticisms of CCM and his coaching ability. And I criticized the day lights out of Dooley for two + years and turns out as correct in my opinions of him. Didn't you support Dooley in year two and part of year three?

Even you have had criticisms - negative posts about your heralded CCM this basketball season. The Vols under performed in the regular season but are playing some really good basketball the last two games.

FYI I was very supportive and positive of the Vols in the game thread yesterday because they played well. I and enjoyed yesterday's game and will hopefully enjoy tomorrow's game. If the Vols give me something to cheer for I cheer, if they don't then will I don't cheer for them.
