Extending Cuonzo Martin - How Long?

I would say Pops and Richardson have about an equal chance of leaving early as a junior. I'm sorry I hurt your feels so bad.

I simply said there's no need to be an ass to the guy. He said he hopes he didn't leave and you went into full dick mode. I know J Rich has a zero % chance of being drafted as do most on here yet you're the only one who felt the need to convey that in a condescending way.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were the moral arbiter for the board. I'm sure Dave is big enough to defend himself. We seemed to have settled it fine between ourselves.

I am not a negative person however I have posted my share of criticisms of CCM and his coaching ability. And I criticized the day lights out of Dooley for two + years and turns out as correct in my opinions of him. Didn't you support Dooley in year two and part of year three?

Even you have had criticisms - negative posts about your heralded CCM this basketball season. The Vols under performed in the regular season but are playing some really good basketball the last two games.

FYI I was very supportive and positive of the Vols in the game thread yesterday because they played well. I and enjoyed yesterday's game and will hopefully enjoy tomorrow's game. If the Vols give me something to cheer for I cheer, if they don't then will I don't cheer for them.

Question...

Would you rather us go 25-6 knocked out game 1

Or

20-11 make the sweet 16

For only 1 season? Take Sweet 16, but after that, I'd EXPECT to get to the Sweet 16 again within 2 years.

If Martin is here for 2 more years, wouldn't you agree anything less than another Sweet 16 by 2015-2016 season would be a disappointment?

There's a lot that can happen the can change the outlook of next season in either direction. Right now I'm gonna enjoy this season, and when it ends there will be plenty of time to worry about next.

Jmo

That's a good point, maybe my outlook and that of most has become so that we look to next year because that's how our teams have been as of late, so bad that hope was in next year. I'll resolve to criticize no more until the season is over.

Bring on Mercer! :spank: and whip dat ass! :spank:

Wow. All the way back to a five year deal? That's a lot man. What's wrong with 2 years to get him back to four and a nice raise?

I think if you do extend him, you've got to give him 2 years but 3 seems unnecessary unless they make the buyout smaller. Right now it is 60% of his salary x years left.

The buyout is the issue with him or any unproven coach. Hart could give him a 10 year extension for all I care as long as there isn't a buyout.

This I agree with 100%.

I would like to see the buyout remain reasonable, but bump him up to 5 years and pay him ~$2m

Pay him 1.5 with 1 mil in incentives. No or little buyout until he establishes a winning/tournament track record.

I assume the buyout will be something that he will want to negotiate. People just throw it out that we shouldn't change the buyout, but he has to agree to a new contract amendment. He may not agree to keeping the buyout the same as it goes to under a million dollars next year. Of course, it is a double edged sword as he would have to pay it if he left for another school, but the other school usually pays it 99% of the time.

Yea you obviously have to up it some, you can't sign him to a big deal and have a 600k buyout. I think now it's 60% of remaining salary, maybe you lower that percentage to around 30% or so.

I'm just wondering why you extend a contract knowing the person who is employed will most likely leave to a better school?

Am I the only one who feels like Martin took the Tennessee job to utilize our resources and treats TN like a High Mid-major?

Yes, you are, as evidenced by you continually asking this same question in some form.

What is everyone's reasoning why CCM is the type that will stay at TN if he got other offers from other schools?

I like to think TN is a "final destination" school. You don't leave unless you get fired.

For starters when Illinois came calling he said he wasn't interested, he wanted to be here.

Second, if that's how you feel then why were you such a Pearl fan?

Pearl actually SAID IT. And stated he wanted to build a LEGACY at Tennessee during his press conference at Auburn.

So? He also openly lobbied himself for multiple other jobs.

We all know Martin isn't nearly as vocal as Pearl. Does he need to parade around campus with his chest painted orange for you to believe he wants to be here?
