What Led to Vols Loss to Mercer Last Year?

You dont think Cuonzo's track record and his actions last season had anything to do with any of those comments?

If you answer no, you need to rake a couple of real pills daily, go to bed , get some rest. You will start thinking rationally in a few days.

Plenty of reason for doubt and skepticism. Did you notice that all of VN was united at one point that Martin's coaching was unacceptable this season? It absolutely was, but there were still a lot of games to be played. Even at our lowest, we still had a chance to salvage the season. And look what happened.

It is rather tacky to be a fair-weather fan, and to start praising Zo as suddenly the right guy because our guys are winning in the big dance. Last year's showing in the NIT is rightfully a gauge for the kind of coach Zo was and is. He didn't have his team ready to play a good Mercer team. This game will be their greatest test to date. This time, they will show up. Win, and everybody will forget what they ever disliked about Martin.

Hey, if you want full on mid-season performance and effort for the NIT, more power to you. Me personally, I'm not throwing anyone under the bus for NIT apathy.

It simple really, IMO. Stokes has taken a huge step forward this season, Richardson is doing good, Maymon wasn't even playing, Barton is flashy at times. We are a lot different this time around.

Btw, I am in agreement about they didn't care about the NIT. They aren't a lower conference team just happy to be playing. They were deservingly hoping or the NCAA tourney and were snubbed. I never like to lose, but you win the nit and you're basically appointed the 65th best team in the country.

So your answer is to condone and make excuses for a coaching staff and team not trying to win. Beyond Ridiculous.

Of course not. It's to refute the eternal importance and future bearing that comes with winning a meaningless tournament.

I'm not condoning our effort and attitude, but I'm not going to dwell on it like I would if we had played that way in the NCAA tournament. And I certainly won't use it as ammunition to fire a coach who has improved each year in his first three.

I just don't think it means much in the long run. Just like I don't think winning the NIT means much in the long run. Nobody cares or remembers, and quite frankly, nobody will care or remember that game five years now. Not even you.

Not a true statement. All of VN was not united.

Why do you think Cuonzo had so many fans wanting him fired this season ?

There are several reasons I can come up with before I'd get to "Because we came out flat against Mercer in a meaningless postseason tournament game".

If CCM's future is decided in your mind based primarily on that game, then I'm not sure what to say.

No, actually it's the worst barometer possible to gauge what kind of coach he was/is.

Any regular season game that has any purposeful meaning at all would be better.

Spring Break was the next week so if UT had won they would have gone out to play at BYU....You make the call the beach or Provo, UT....Yeah it wasn't a hard choice for the players

I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on the vols over the years. I as a fan live, and die with every game. Should I have not watched the game? Maybe I shouldn't buy another UT shirt, or hat, or ticket? They are meaningless right? Just because the team lost doesn't mean that they didn't care, and any player that doesn't care about any game should not suit up for the VOLS.

Lack of interest or not, Stokes is markedly improved this season, richardson's offense is markedly improved over last season, and Maymon was out for the season. This is a much stronger ut team vs a year back.

Can't speak for mercer.

Mercer lost one from last year's team. The starters have been playing for something like 4-5 years. Have been very smart in the tourney so far and they've been playing very well together=chemistry.:tease2:
GO VOLS!

They have one guy that's a 6th year senior.

All I know is that the Vols lost, which is a wakeup call, for sure. I presume the makeup of the team was the same. Anybody see the game?

Don't know, but I'd suggest they come at them differently this time. I think they will and will win this time.

In a perfect world, you'd have a fair argument, but I'd venture to say you haven't shown up for work full of motivation to be your best everyday of your career either, so it's a little hypocritical to be so over the top with your resentment.

As for your support, if you'll feel vindicated by not buying another shirt, hat, or ticket, then have at it. It won't have quite the effect you hoped for, and you're the only one losing something.

I was disappointed with the effort myself, but I got over it and moved on. I understood then their disappointment with having to settle for the NIT. It wasn't their goal, and no amount of coaching in the world can make people care about something that they don't think is important. I hope, if nothing else, they learned a lesson in that game about how a less talented team can slay the giant if you aren't mentally prepared and focused. Maybe that lesson pays itself forward with the reward of a victory tonight in a game that has plenty of meaning for all of us. A victory made possible, just maybe, because of a lesson learned in humility.
