I would agree with above, Brillo, about west coast beaches. I lived in Orlando for 20 years and went to NSB for day trips but for a week it might get kind of stale. West coast beaches are calmer, warmer, shallower, which is nice if you have kids. Beaches are more sugary powder. Longboat Key is 100 miles from Disney. Check out Longboat Key Club. There is a nice place near there Called St Armand's Circle. Lots of restaurants. Nice place to walk around. Euphemia Haye restaurant is a special occasion place there you will remember forever. Also you can go into downtown Sarasota where there are too many restaurants to pick from in a week. Check out Mote Marine Research Laboratory on a rainy day. Kids will love it.
As far as Caribbean trips, check out Peter Island in BVI. You will think you got off the boat at Fantasy Island. Bitter End Yacht Club is nice there as well. Fly in to Tortola. Hang out around Cane Garden Bay, where you can see Jimmy Buffett on a good day. Check out the Baths. It is a neat beach. Lots of pirate lore. Fun, fun places. You will be trying to figure out how you can move there.
