My parents bring up all the time that they had me when they were my age. I just can’t afford to have a kid. Most people my age are probably in the same boat. It’s too expensive now.I wish my son and DIL would get on with it. I want a grandchild before I'm too old to pick it up, much less play with it.

I don't know your situation, but I don't think in general it's any more expensive. My friends all say "you have to buy them a cell phone and pay for travel baseball and competitive gymnastics and buy them brand new clothes, I just can't afford a kid."My parents bring up all the time that they had me when they were my age. In the 90s my dad was a restaurant manager and my mom stayed at home. They raised 5 kids. It's really not as expensive as some people make it sound. Our minimum standard has gone up more than salaries, not the price of essentials. Not that it matters but I watched a video on it. Apparently in the 70s they had massive inflation which changed the dynamic of being able to support a family on one salary.
I guess it makes sense though because my grandfather worked on the railroads(blue collar) and my grandmother was always a stay at home mom. They raised four boys and never did without. Not that simple these days.
Ok man. The amount of wealth accrued in this Country during 90's was staggering...In the 90s my dad was a restaurant manager and my mom stayed at home. They raised 5 kids. Data doesn't support this. Simply look at the ratio between median salary and cost of housing, automobiles, etc. from the 70s through the 90s vs. today. In the 90s my dad was a restaurant manager and my mom stayed at home.
