‘23 FL OT Francis Mauigoa (Miami commit)

I’m sure Sprye probably could’ve landed him if they wanted to. Fact is Miami has more to play with as far as budget. Are you going to blow most of your budget on one guy? Go get Ramil and Sham and this isn’t a huge issue. And to be honest I would’ve loved to have got this kid. I’m not going sour grapes

So the Tennessee shirt on his story last night was just another kid trolling Tennessee because it’s fun to do so? Pretty tired of that, TBH.
Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous. These kids just crave all the attention and speculation, it’s like an opioid for them, even the ones who are “family-oriented” lmao.

Guys I’m not even worried about this. Disappointed, absolutely. But I think with even NIL , we need some more time to consistently reel in these guys. Gonna go drink some beer and enjoy my 4th now.

We don't know the extent to what is going on with NIL.

Part of the problem I believe some places are experiencing is that even if the money is there, some level of sanity kicks in and people say "i'm not giving an 18 year old that. No way".

Well, this Ruiz dude is insane. Many people may have the money, but they'll be damned if they are going to throw the amounts around that are being discussed. Ruiz will.

So, another 3 star?
Probably. He’ll be a smart kid.. just barely keeping his roster spot for 5 years. But, he’ll pledge his love for Tennessee every step of the way. 😛

No seriously.. this is disappointing. Climbing back will require signing high quality recruits and many of them. Are we doing enough? I’m not sure.

You gotta give this staff credit for getting as far as they have with people like Tate and Mauigoa. To not even be in these recruitment until the 11th hour and legit have a shot in itself is amazing but shows were building something special.Give it another year and these are the types of recruiting battles will win on the regular..Just gotta have faith and patience
Finishing 2nd, 3rd, etc means literally nothing

Would like to have gotten him just for the public perception, but I am happy with the guys we are getting who truly love Tennessee. They will put their hearts into it, and they will be winners. He is gone to Miami. It has to be the money because no one in their right mind would go there over UT, but now he is forgotten and is no longer any concern for me.

I’ll not blame a high schooler for taking the bigger bag. I will blame Danny White for getting outbid on what was supposed to be our edge: NIL.

Honestly we may be lucky to hang on to Nico at this point.

Yeah Francis, y’all are soooooooooooo family minded and loyal. Hahahaha what a crock of s***
This is stupid. Don't you think HIS ACTUAL family comes before anything else? Picking the biggest financial deal was all about making sure his family was set. That's what it came down to, and nobody is going to outbid Miami right now.

Also, Spyre doesn't need to outbid Miami because they're paying stupid money that's going to cause issues with kids on their roster being disgruntled about NIL. Good for Mauigoa's family, but he isn't worth whatever Ruiz is paying.

Craaaaazyyy we couldn't get this dude even though we have a 5 star Polynesian QB and their families are freaking friends. Unreal.
All about the money. Either were going to get in bidding wars...or not. I'm fine with not. Each class is more than one guy. I do hate it. But it really doesn't mean anything long term.

If money was the only thing that matters then good for him I'm glad he got what he wanted.

I know this stings but I'm not terribly upset. I'm not trying to say we didn't want him anyway. One of the main attractions to getting this guy was the prestige. There's a lot of dynamics when players choose schools because of money. When one guy gets a huge sum of money, others on the team, other recruits, expect the same, or at least close. When they don't it causes resentment and dissention. You can't pay a bunch of mercenaries and expect to be great imo. I predict we'll do fine with the other OL on the board. We need a dominant LT more anyway.

banned for what exactly? calling it how it is? It’s okay to be truthful. Even though you don’t want to hear it, they haven’t been able to close on two five stars that once seemed like locks to come here.

It’s not a joke though we will get good players we just got outbid by a millionaire

A USC mod was saying the other day Tennessee and a couple of other schools are basically steering away from a particular “lawyer” that is representing several players in their NIL deals. Apparently that guy represents Mauigoa also. I guess they try to avoid going through him because they are concerned about future NCAA trouble with how he does things.

We only have 700 fans a part of spyre that is abysmal

Then it’s on them or the major donors to get the word out! How do I know the $$ is going towards the recruits and players? I’m not being condescending but it’s similar to giving someone money a go fund me account. I’d love to see someone or a donor get involved and tell the fans how to get involved and help land the “big fish.”
Saban trashed A&M and others regarding NIL; however, I bet the donors pick up their game and do what it takes to increase source of NIL money.
