The flip side to that argument is that if Nico gets injured, we are running with a true freshman, Moore and Shuler. You might as well stick a fork in the season. It's pretty much the same deal as last season with Milton coming off that Clemson victory plus Nico on the roster. Tough situation and no easy answer. Unfortunately, I think we sink or swim with Nico. If he goes down, we just accept it and be thankful he has a redshirt to fall back on.None let Nico do his thing. Unless he goes after Gabriel he was at UCF. I would just let it be . Don’t need them.
Who knows about Merklinger? He's as much a stud as Schaffer or Ainge were in 2004 when they came in and started from day 1. It would be nice to get someone not necessarily looking to start, but be amply competent to serve as a backupThe flip side to that argument is that if Nico gets injured, we are running with a true freshman, Moore and Shuler. Gabriel would be great but I think we have all our eggs in 1 basket. It would be a slap to Nico after he Red shirted and has been very comported. IMO.
Out of that group Gabriel is only one that’s a proven commodity though. McCord IMO held OSU back and Nico is as proven as Vandergriff.
Merklinger will immediately become the most popular man on VN as soon as Nico throws his first incompletion that sails on him.Who knows about Merklinger? I know me and you have went back and forth on this but I think I am in agreement that we ride with what we got. I think fans need to temper expectations especially if Nico gets injured. The flip side to that argument is that if Nico gets injured, we are running with a true freshman, Moore and Shuler. I've said elsewhere that I wouldn't be upset if we had him as our backup next season....not that we have much of a choice.Who knows about Merklinger? I blamed him for taking us into this season with Milton. Pretty much a similar situation. No one would come knowing Milton and Nico were on the roster. Don't get me wrong, I know he's a players coach and why he did it, but it still hurt us at times this year.If we don't have a good QB2 and QB1 gets hurt, those of you who are saying we need to pass on looking at the portal, will blame CJH for not doing so.
