Game Thread: #13/10 LSU (23-4, 10-3) @ Tennessee (16-9, 9-4 SEC) 2/25/24 12:00 pm EST ESPN

Powell shot 17.6% yesterday, and kept shooting. In the SC game, she played 38 minutes, and had 1 assist. I kept thinking, why is she taking all the shots? So yesterday’s 6 assists is better, but that doesn’t change what she did in the 4th quarter, in both games actually. We got to within 1 point, and she throws up an immediate 3 attempt, and that was a killer. Things went down from there. Going by memory, so may be wrong, but wasn’t there a tv timeout in the 4th where she could have been stopped, but it didn’t happen. We got to within 1 point, I understand saving timeouts. Who knows how many timeouts we might need at the end of a game? There was no one to replace her, she had to stop taking all the shots, and didn’t. With all the misses, still saw her waving for the ball. Poor Rickea had to take a bad shot, because she knew Powell wasn’t passing to her or anyone else.
Two bad games, but she was totally responsible for us winning the Oklahoma game. The game that is now our big win of the season. She also made some huge plays in the Auburn game and a few others. This is her last season she should've had a different mindset yesterday, but no one could shoot so don't think it mattered much. I have never watched a game where two teams shot so poorly and especially the first half when so many of the shots were open looks.

I think we got a bid in the NCAA unless we lose to both A&M and Sc and then one of the four worse teams in the SEC in game one. A&M clinches it for sure. Not really excited about moving up would like to land in that ten spot instead of eight or nine. If we had won yesterday I think we could've gone for seven or higher, but that is over so being a ten is our best option to get a couple games.
I think if we beat A&M that will move us up to at least a #9 seed if not #8. It would be the second best win on our resume in terms of NET rating. And then if we beat Alabama in the SEC tournament, that replaces A&M as our second best win.

IMO our resume is already better than the other 9 seeds in Creme's Bracketology - certainly Mississippi State, who we have the H2H win against (at their place) and they've lost 4 in a row, including to Florida and Kentucky (both at home!!).

Massey/HHS projects we would beat any of the current 8-10 seeds on a neutral court, except HHS has us losing to UNLV.

She is a 3 or 4 when recruited and not a 5, if size is issue why do you replace Key with Wynn?. Don’t think she will stay , why should she ? Kellie has taken a player recruited as a 3 / 4 and now trying to force her into a 5 and cut her minutes drastically. Why would any recruit that See’s that want to play for this staff? I even seen Darby playing underneath , really? Her defense is terrible and you play her under the basket. She could easily have spelled puckett to give her a rest particularly with her shooting in this game. I will be surprised if Karo is here next year as opposed to going to a coach that really recognizes hard work and skills at the position she was recruited for! 3 minutes in the game and she prevented Reese from scoring and payed good defense on her at the end of 2nd period. Maybe to get playing time she needs to put her head down and shoot wild shots! Sorry recruits come to this program and skills regress.
She can transfer along with a few others, we need to build a new roster that can compete.

Once again, I mentioned it in another thread, when we absolutely NEED a basket to break a drought, our staff cannot draw up a play to get us a bucket. It just does not happen. It's a weakness that's been there since day one and has not changed. I need KJH to change that.
Rickea never gets a shot in those moments.

If that happens and we beat the eight or nine in the first game depending on which one we are. Then you go straight to the one which I guess is as good a way to prove yourself as any. You have to beat them sometimes to win the bracket, but it kills your sweet sixteen advance if you don't win.

With this coaching staff would not be better, don’t blame the players for coaching issues, think several will leave if Kelli stays just like her previous talented recruits. Players talent regressed Under this watch. Rickea was actually 6 for 18, should she keep shooting or maybe coaching staff should develop an offensive strategy?

So Tennessee can show that the last game was an aberration and they lose by 30+ pts this time? Great…
20+ loss should be cause for the deniers to come clean about the direction and leadership of the program. Another cross roads game that will cause more harm to Kellie if it’s not competitive.

The problem is that SC played probably two of their worst games of the season (Tennessee and Georgia) back to back, but won both by double digits. And now, they beat a very good Alabama team by 28 and seem to be firing on all cylinders.

They were vulnerable then; I don't think they are vulnerable now. This could be ugly as sin...

Rickea forced a few shots because she wasn’t getting the ball enough, so once she got it she just shot instead of it being in the flow of the game.

They are beatable, I’ll just say it, everyone in here said they couldn’t be beat last year and what happened they loss, stop crowning these people before they do anything, they can be beat and we can beat them.

Honestly Losing to LSU may play in our favor and keep us out of that 8/9 then playing a 1 seed.

Would much rather be a 10 seed then play a 2

Kellie said, “don’t look at all the times we’ve played terrible this season, just look at the 1st half of the South Carolina game”. That’s the pitch that’ll get us in the tourney? What are we up to now 0-7 vs the top 25 this year.

Not a smart thing to say since we didn't win the second half. Win a game like that then say look at it otherwise it is the same result.

I see a lot of people saying NIL is a problem at Tennessee for women’s hoops. This is a serious question I’m about to ask because I’m not plugged in enough to know: aside from the Caitlin Clark’s and LSU players, are there any schools truly committed to NIL in women’s hoops? I know word is that LSU is all in and obviously Clark is bringing in a lot, but aside from those two instances, how many schools are slinging cash at players in what is a non- revenue sport?
I posted an article on the forum not long ago. It said LSU’s women's basketball was 8 million dollars in the red last year. They showed a 2 million income and spent 10 million. The title of the article was LSU’s women's basketball writing checks They cannot cash. Maybe that's how they are doing their NIL. If so that will stop somewhere.

   a team not in the top 3 of WCBB isn't relevant. That's the truth. So, KJH...where does that leave the LV team?

Actually wasn't a rule Tennessee took the NCAA to court about their collective not being able to offer NIL deals to high school athletes and they won.
Not quite. A judge issued an injunction, effectively negating the NCAA rules until a trial determines the outcome of the action by TN and VA. The trial will probably confirm the demise of the NCAA rule, but calling it a win at this point is not accurate.

Hmm I kinda have a different pov. Most wbb programs operate at a loss. Especially when the coaching staff salary is as high as LSU. However, what’s not in that article is the eyeballs and national press they’ve brought to the university. So technically the checks are cashing, but in a number of ways. When it comes to their nil I think it’s solid. They got an couple to cough up 1.5 million for their new locker room. They seem to have very willing donors.

My what an evolution now when we are hoping the LVs avoid any seed especially when we all remember the times that teams wanted a seed that avoided the LVs at least until the Final4
