Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

She's a winner. Nobody has to care. But winning 9 out of the last 11 SEC tournaments, she commands respect.
Thanks for the teachable moment ... Btw you can give respect and still not care what the individual is doing ...

I have noticed that so many teams - both women and men - who have had really good years can't make a shot towards the end of the season. Texas's offense has been mostly deplorable since they got #1. Yes, it is partially the defenses, but they also just aren't clicking. Notre Dame as well. Several of the top 10 SEC men's teams have several games struggling to get a basket or just get a win, no matter who they are playing. I think it is just the fatigue of playing in really hard leagues with so many big games. I think that is also what happen to the Lady Vols, which was further intensified since CKC not anticipating that she would need to give the team more rest rather than more brutal workouts. I have a feeling that won't happen again.

Some teams are peaking this time of year. I’d have to mark that down to coaching. That’s the goal of every program.

I’m super curious how they will seed the teams this year. I can see it playing out a few different ways. Based upon NET, SOS, Quad 1 wins etc etc, it Will be revealing how they place the top 20 teams.

We'll see how the committee shakes things up but I would be pleasantly surprised if we jumped to #1 overall seed
Strongest case for it if you objectively review resumes. I’m not wanting to argue this one with anyone, it’s solely an opinion. But a quick look at NET, quad one games/wins, top ten wins, top 25 wins……SOS…I think I have a strong case for that opinion in spite of not wanting to argue it with anyone. It’s close in some areas, so I can live with any decision. Just let them all go play now and place them wherever they deserve to be within reason. It will all settle out. It’s a small matter.

There are still 6-7 teams capable of winning the whole thing imo, but I believe 4-5 are the lead horses by a good stretch at the final turn, and March marked that final turn. If there is a dark horse back in the pack waiting to make a late charge it could be a team like UT if they can muster their mojo again from the UConn game and extend it for 6 games.

Charlie’s latest thoughts:

I wouldn’t mind UConn being the #2 seed in the bracket that has Texas #1. I think Texas is the weakest possible #1 seed, assuming chalk all the way.

A part of me is wondering if this is going to be a season like the 2016 tourney where almost all the top teams got knocked out on the way to the FF. I just think this season feels so “volatile”, in a way.

It feels like the 2005 (Baylor) and 2006 (Maryland) seasons when there was no clear dominant team and upsets occurred.

If that’s true, I would expect an unfamiliar champ.

Tournament Trivia: The lowest seed to ever win the tournament was a 3 seed, which has been done three times (UNC 1994, UT 1997 and LSU 2023).

One of my faves is in the portal: Wofford guard Rachael Rose enters transfer portal

She put up 23 on Duke and 20 on SC this year. Last year against us she had 23 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and only 1 turnover.

That said, I don't really see her in the SEC, but who knows. I could see her in the ACC, maybe staying in South Carolina and joining Poppie at Clemson.
