NCAA Tournament Game Thread - (4) Ohio State vs (5) Lady Vols

Last night, Cotie posted on Instagram: "Buckeye nation...yall have been so good to me, love yall forever"

That, coupled with her post-game locker room interview, sounds like someone about to transfer.

My amateur lip reading of the OSU coach to CKC at the handshake was "I'll handle her". I'm guessing she already knew Cotie was gone and she's okay with that.

You mean to tell me, Kind Sir/Madam, that CKC took the advice of a few Sages here,
got in the grill of the refs”, displaying an overabundance of testosterone, copious quantities of piss and vinegar, true gritttt and so forth? I must have blinked.
Nonetheless, her calm demeanor was, happy to say, quite effective.
I may have mentioned it in the game thread when the SheNutz were making their run.

Com. Po. Sure.

I am certainly grateful Coach Kim agreed and didn’t choose an Alpha Male approach with the officials.

You obviously missed the moment in the game when CKC went full Ozzy Osborne and bit the head off a live chicken and gave a 10 decibel scream “I ain’t your (expletive deleted) mommy!! Needless to say the refs were very intimidated and gave us every call from that point on.

Yeah she had a lot to say last night, that’s for sure. She had so much potential coming into college but I feel like she has regressed. I loved her motor as a freshman and she has lost that edge. Especially on defense and rebounding.

She is an LSU or North Carolina type player. She would be a great get for UNC to replace Utsby. With her athleticism she should be a pro but needs to go somewhere that will help her improve her rebounding and round out her game.
She seems to be a rotten tomato in the barrel .....not sure that she would fit at Tennessee without a major change in attitude.

LV took the belt out on the road, nationally televised game with a loser leave town (season over) on the line. Big equity game for the staff in recruiting and a statement to the Cambridge sisters who decided to leave the state.

The first sister went to Vanderbilt. Ohio was smart in giving the older Cambridge sister a scholarship a year before Jaloni graduated from high school. Since she is a redshirt sophomore with two more years to play …. That gives them more time together! Jaloni could have gone anywhere but chose to play with little sister! It will be interesting to see what Waltz does if there are players leaving by the portal ? And if he can convince the sisters to stay ? The older sister is a substitute at best and I don’t think anyone would take both just to get Jaloni ? Speaking of sisters… we’ve got a couple coming next year ! 😁

We requested our tickets for Birmingham! 🥰 I lived there for quite a while, so I was hoping we would be in that bracket and advance to give me a fun excuse to go "home." Still buzzing with excitement from last night and hope our team is too.
Makes me feel better knowing you’ll be there to represent!

Could not give coaches more credit for mental reset. We knew the legs could rest, late season heads are tougher to bring around. And they did it masterfully.

Can’t remember seeing such total mental takedown on an opponents home floor as this. Owned their heads by early in the second half, saw them totally quit, esp on D as soon as their last run was extinguished, bark at ea other, curse their own coaches in the handshake line and finally give an f.u. and bye bye pressor fm their star.

If you can keep your head while all about you are losing theirs . . .

One of my fave lil game moments when you knew our mental was 100% on point:. Got a crucial 5 sec call late in the game, Zee, who was guarding the inbound, stepped directly out of bounds, took the ball out of the hands of the inbounder and started looking for someone to throw it in too. No flexing, staring or yelling, no ref! Just gimme that sh$t and let’s move on. O SU player just stood there frozen beside her for a second, Priceless.

I've disagreed with you on this before. Bruce Pearl stays hard on the refs and oftentimes it comes back to bite him. Kim is in constant conversation with the refs. She's building reputation with them without humiliating them. It may not pay off each game, but WILL pay off eventually and regularly.
BP antics also shows in his team. Constant complaining, flopping and looking for a cheap call. The longer Bruce has been away, the more I despise his wolf in sheeps clothing mentality.

We can argue about this till Kingdom come and I’m sure we will. But Kim Caldwell is never going to be over performative w refs and almost never going to call timeouts to stop a run.

If you root for her “system “ you have to accept this as part of it.

Here's the thing. When watching Ohio State players during their 16-0 run to go ahead, I thought last night, "Yep. They're used to teams crumbling under their pressure, and now that they've had this run, they actually think they're going win. BUT THEY DON'T KNOW TENNESSEE! The Lady Vols can take a punch, or two, or three and still get right back up. The Buckeyes are about to be stunned."

And that's exactly what happened. They blinked, and Tennessee didn't. And that's what Vic Schaeffer is going to be preaching to his players ... that they can't assume they've "got this" if they get a little lead on us. 'Cause the Lady Vols don't roll over. They may just kick some Texas azz instead. I would not be a bit surprised by that.

I felt this was a pretty cool instance too

I rather enjoy her demeanor as it is. Calm, cool and knowing her team will make the other team get in a street fight. She doesn’t need a tech when the other team is fading away, she just has to weather the storm. And the more a poster demands it the more I’m encouraged she’s doing the right thing.

I love that our team and staff have enough time to enjoy/celebrate this win, rest and prepare for the S16.

We won’t have to travel far for the regionals, and will likely have more fans than our opponent(s).

I’m loving this energy!
I’m definitely trying to be one of those fans in the crowd! We need a big crowd! It’s nothing like seeing a sea of orange on that TV screen!

Didn’t see any argument. I think you are on the same page with @Majors there…
