I live in the heart of BBN, unfortunately. I can count on one hand the total amount of Vol fans I know, the rest are UK fans. Family, friends, co-workers, etc...So I'm going to give you my perspective and tell you the things I'm hearing. Two question I always hear are...

1. Who is your coach?" I hear this so many times because they honestly never heard of who our coach is. These are common fans btw. When CBP was here I never heard this question once. Why? Because he let the nation know about the big orange and he promoted us.

2. "Is UT going to be any good this year and will they make the tourney? Again I'd never hear this back when CBP was coaching because UK fans already knew that the Vols were going to be battling head to head to win the East and knew that the Vols were going to be in the tourney.

So I have asked around my friends and family and even posted the question on Facebook...Would it be crazy for UT to hire back Pearl.

"No, he was a good coach for sure"

"No, I honestly liked Pearl"

"I'd love to see him back he's hard to dislike"

"I want someone else to be competitive in the SEC again besides Florida so if UT doesn't I hope someone else in the SEC does"

"He's a likeable villain to the Cats and always had them ranked, but we (UK) did own him, so I'd like to see him back coaching for Tennessee"

"He's a sleeze ball lair, but a good coach"
(I simply said look at your coach lol)

"It's a no brainer, why wouldn't they hire him back?"

All of these quotes are from UK fans I know. I will edit this post and post more quotes when I get them from the Facebook question I asked.

A few of my UK friends give me grief, but yeah they all say it would best for us to bring back Pearl, but that they really don't care since they "owned him". Of course I point yeah but we won the East (which doesn't exist anymore) and the SEC, which they concede but it's like bragging anything to an Alabama football fan. There's not a whole lot you can say since they've been so dominant.

Well other than they're both a bunch of rednecks and hillbillies. :)

I don't have UK friends. But if I did.......we'd likely fight if we talked about basketball breaking up the friendship.

The more I see that public opinion leans toward it being a good decision to re hire Pearl, the more I am convinced that Hart will not do so. It makes too much common sense, so I would say that they won't rehire him.

Also, if Pearl returned and had success, then Hart could not claim that he was a genius for hiring him. Heck, even my 4th grader would know to rehire him. I think Hart will over analysis this and try to hire someone whom he thinks is better than Pearl. Of course, it will end up being a disaster but he will do it anyway.

Living in Lexington that would be pretty hard not to have friends that are UK fans lol.

I have a Kentucky fan acquaintance and he is surprisingly behind the Bring Bruce Back movement too - Kentucky needs the SEC to be as strong as possible.

I've been saying it for a while, the sec needs CBP. He made UT relevant. He made the SEC more competetive.

The funny part is Kentucky fans talking about a sleeze ball (talking about Pearl) and they have the King of Sleeze in Calapari. :eek:lol: If Tennessee wants to get to good basketball then hire Pearl. If Cheek does not hire him. TBA is going to look silly only a few thousand in there next year.

So we (UT) should do our hiring based upon what UK fans say. Ok.

everybody wants him back. If you are in Starkville tonight, are you trekking down to watch a CM team? Or might you just go down there to see BP and his high energy team come in and be entertained

No, everyone does not want him back. That's ridiculous.

My KY friends say the same stuff pretty much. I hear a lot of love for Bruce and who is Martin? Of course I used to defend Martin and tell them he will get it done, now I look stupid. I don't like looking stupid. Lol

In my opinion which is obviously very much in the minority, regardless of your point of view, this is a polarizing discussion. At this moment, the fact is we have a coach and a team of young men who are all Vols that we should be supporting and not undermining with divisive talk.

Who cares what Uk fans think? If we need a new coach get a new coach. If Pearl is the best option get Pearl.

It's a bad situation either way. Either support mediocrity for years and years (I don't see UT getting much better than the last couple) or seem like a bunch of haters and complain.

Again, either way has it's negatives. Like you said, it's a polarizing situation.

my bad. not every single person wants him back. You are correct

Finally! I got something right. It's been a long time coming.

:)

Seriously though, I would agree that almost everyone wants CCM gone, whoever might replace him.

3 trips to the dance in 27 years as an athletic administrator over college basketball programs tends to support your statements. Unless he gets lucky like he did with Butch it is not likely to work out well. But why would Bama Dave care? By the time the next one fails he will be on Medicare and collecting Social Security payments and heading back to Tuscaloser.

This isn't a YMCA basketball league. Fans deserve the best effort they can for a coach that is getting millions to do what he does. They don't want to see us losing to mediocre teams, teams that we have no business losing too, let alone getting swept by. It's a message board where fans go on to vent their frustration about the team they love. Now if we are harassing them and messaging them on social media or at the game I understand, but on a message board I think it's ok to talk about firing someone that isn't getting the job done.

Go Thunder. Lol I suppose I'll follow my "we suck so I need joy team" in March, Arizona.

Thunderup! I guess we at least have the playoffs to look forward to. OKC is the only team I follow that has made the postseason in a few years. (If you don't count the Bulls, they are my team out east and I follow them and the Bears since I family up in Chicago.)
