It probably wouldn't have mattered either way, but having D.J. Smith eliminate us and Green commit to South Carolina makes accepting Evan's commitment so much easier.
We are recruiting guys like Simmons, Lammons, and Battle very hard, not to mention pipe dreams like Jackson. I don't think Butch is going to "settle" for anyone in this class.
I don't know how Jones feels about Evan Berry as a recruit, but I wouldn't expect anyone to fall into a slot at this point.

We can stop acting like Butch doesn't already have two spots on reserve for the brothers. If they go elsewhere, it's not because Tennessee "filled their spots".
All of this is spot on.I have to agree here. As much work Butch has done to welcome back former players and rekindle a family atmosphere, I just don't think he can afford not to wait on the Berry bros no matter how long they take. Recruiting over or passing up on these kids would be a huge mistake, imo. Not only could it come back and bite you on the field, but it would be a huge PR/recruiting blunder.
Not much they could do about it.
Yup. If the kids paid their own way, the NCAA could do nothing. There is no rule that says a kid MUST accept a scholarship if one is available to them VS walking on. Charlie High did not have to go to Tennessee Tech just because they offered. He chose to accept a walk on spot here. Berry Bros could do the same thing. They won't, but they could.
Are we seriously even entertaining the thought that James Berry's twin sons and Eric Berry's siblings are going to be offered a walk-on spot on the team?
