Merge if necessary. Couldn’t find his recruit thread from a few years back.

I know everyone has been bumping every player that enters the transfer portal, but to me this one could be interesting. Former top 100 player (top 2 safety in America) and was the Rose Bowl mvp at Ohio State. Just entered the portal and has been contacted already by several SEC staffs (including Kiffin).

Would be a great get to replace Warrior immediately. And a great way to add experience and numbers to scholly count as well.

How much eligibility does he have left? Would he cost an initial counter? How long would he have sit if any time?

Probably in the links you posted but I’m just too damn tired to click these transfer threads until we show interest. If Pruitt and Ansley want the kid I’m all on board. If not I feel confident in the future of our secondary still. They’re two of the best at recognizing and development of talent at that position in particular

Looks like he's got 3 to play 2 and without a waiver he’s sitting next season

Not sure why everyone is all about transfers at this point. JMO, but I think you focus on recruiting right now unless we're talking about an absolute stud player hitting the portal. Most of these guys may have been highly rated out of HS, but they're transferring now because they couldn't get the PT they wanted. Not saying they still can't become players, but I'd focus on guys you could have for longer.

So if Trevor Lawrence wanted to transfer here you’d just say ehh focus on high school kids? Nah. I’m focused on players from anywhere that can help us win. I don’t care if they’re here 1-4 years. Especially since the only way we get to 85 limit is via taking some transfers. We can’t sign 30 kids from high school.

Transfer guys can certainly be valuable. And when you're in the position we've been in the last few years, you certainly look at guys (like Kennedy, and others) who can come in and start day 1. But I long for the day when we're not desperate to add transfer guys anymore because, we dont need them. Been a while since we've been there. I'm not saying we never consider it, but should definitely only be based on immediate need at a certain position.

Did you miss the part where I said "unless we're talking about an absolute stud player"? I don't think Brendon White fits that qualification.

Also, guys from the portal count against the 25.

To repeat what I said before, unless we're talking about an absolute stud player, I'm of the opinion you use the portal to fill needs you were unable to address in recruiting. So recruit first, portal later.

Right. And if you recruit right you shouldn't need to use the portal, except only for guys like a Fields or Hurts that can greatly impact the team and take you to the playoff.

Well don't click it then.

It's all part of the game. High school recruit, Juco, or portal, if coaches think they add value no reason to limit ourselves IMO. We are still rebuilding, we are seeing less Juco offers this year as CJP has had a full year and a half to recruit but Joe Burrow was not as highly recruited from HS or from the portal as Fields or Hurts yet they are now competing for the NC and Heisman.... worth a look and discussion...

Be sure to remember this when you're rooting on Aubrey Solomon after sacks next year. Or DeAngelo Gibbs after a TD catch... Or Kennedy after a pancake block...

Lol

Taken because of needs not fulfilled through recruiting. No one is opposed to taking transfers, just saying that it shouldn't be the first option unless we're talking about someone really special. Ideally, you do well enough in recruiting that you don't need to go that route. Things rarely go ideally.
