‘17 Brendon White - tOSU transfer

Be sure to remember this when you're rooting on Aubrey Solomon after sacks next year. Or DeAngelo Gibbs after a TD catch... Or Kennedy after a pancake block...

Lol
And here we go with someone taking my post the wrong way. I'm grateful we have every one of those guys. Really am. We needed to take those guys given where we've been. 100% supportive of that.

But ill be glad when we're not jumping on Volnation every time someone from another school hits the transfer portal hoping they may consider us, because we dont need them. The last couple of years and even now still, I take whoever we can get until we get our roster in a comparable situation to the upper echelon of the SEC.

And BTW, I'm not saying we should never use it, just dont want to be relying on it is my point.

Well just say this then. I agree with this.

When your start with " And if you recruit right you shouldn't need to use the portal, " it had an inference....

Those 2 statements actually go together. If we recruit right then we won't need to rely on the portal. And I will be glad when we're at that point. And we are getting there.

Stop arguing just to argue. There's nothing there.

Taken because of needs not fulfilled through recruiting. No one is opposed to taking transfers, just saying that it shouldn't be the first option unless we're talking about someone really special. Ideally, you do well enough in recruiting that you don't need to go that route. Things rarely go ideally.
I don't disagree. It sounded like there was an inference that they aren't recruiting right and are relying on transfers... Which just isn't the case.

I don't see them as relying on the portal. Cause they're not

The one kid in the portal that piques my interest, and I know nothing about him or why he's transferring, is Justin Shorter. Number 8 player in the nation in 2018. Would be interested in knowing more about him and if he would qualify as one of those rare stud players to hit the portal. Or did he flame out at PSU? Like I said, don't know anything about the reason he's transferring. But I also think we haven't been able to fully address our need at WR this cycle having missed out on Jarrett and TJB.

word is he's really not tall enough to be effective at the WR spot.

Strange...
He had 46 tackles and an INT as a Sophomore last year...he should have blown up this year!

Transfer guys can certainly be valuable. And when you're in the position we've been in the last few years, you certainly look at guys (like Kennedy, and others) who can come in and start day 1. But I long for the day when we're not desperate to add transfer guys anymore because, we dont need them. Been a while since we've been there. I'm not saying we never consider it, but should definitely only be based on immediate need at a certain position.

This all day.

And after we no longer need transfers and Jucos, I look forward to the day that only 3-5 true frosh contribute and the rest all RS. And none of the contributors are big uglies.

THAT will be the sign that Vols football is back.

People saying to take a hard pass here may want to reconsider. This guy is bigger and faster than Nigel Warrior and could pair very well with Tank next year if immediately eligible.

He'd need a waiver... But if safety is still an issue...I agree

he was Rose Bowl MVP last yr i think. Not sure what happened but a physical 215lb Safety would be nice.

Wow. That is some messed up ish. Dude played great and got his playing time decreased for really no reason? This is baffling. Wasnt Day Meyers DC last year?

No. He was the offensive coordinator.

When you create a position like that every other coach I've known uses it, because it creates more to game plan against.

Ohio State is loaded, so they can play who they want. But this kid legit got screwed.

Coaches are humans too, that's why I cringe everytime I hear someone say"trust the coaches ".

I see what you're saying but you do realize that the big time programs take players from the portal.
