‘20 NC SG Jaden Springer (UT commit 10/23/19)

"Our tune hasn’t changed from what we’ve been saying with increasing confidence for the past couple of months. Tennessee is the team to beat here and I would expect an announcement pretty quickly after Springer wraps up his trip."

"Could there be some sort of surprise here? Absolutely, it’s recruiting after all, and crazy things have been known to happen. With that said however, if I was a betting man I would bet that Tennessee is about to land the No. 15 player in the nation to go along with No. 18 Keon Johnson and No. 33 Corey Walker Jr."

FWIW, here's what ESPN's Jeff Borzello says on his latest Hot Board post this morning:

Favorites look to take advantage on official visits

Three top-20 prospects taking official visits this weekend seem to have one school leading the way in their recruitments: Devin Askew, Jalen Suggs (No. 6) and Jaden Springer (No. 16).
...
Then there's Springer. He cut his list to a final five, then dropped North Carolina and Florida out of that group. Three schools remain: Memphis, Michigan and Tennessee. He already has taken official visits to all three schools, with Memphis and Michigan coming in the past few weeks, and Tennessee occurring last March. He'll return to Knoxville this weekend -- and the Volunteers are the front-runners heading down the stretch. Tennessee will have 2020 commits Keon Johnson (No. 33) and Corey Walker (No. 39) on campus to help sway Springer.

Jaden Springer prediction: Tennessee
Confidence level: 75%
Others in the mix: Memphis, Michigan

Off-topic, and none of this matters at all, but the ESPN recruiting rankings are always trash. It seems the prospects we target are almost always lower ranked in their ratings. Keon #39? Seriously?

*nods* I get what you mean. ESPN's recruiting rankings are head-scratching. I tend to favor our local beat guys and Rivals/247 folks more than ESPN when it comes to recruiting rankings. Just wanted to add an additional national perspective, especially down the homestretch. The overall buzz is all Tennessee.

ESPN has been the slowest to react to Keon's jump in the class rankings. Not sure if they just haven't scouted, penalize him for being a Tennessee commit instead of a Duke or UNC commit, or what. Rivals and 247 both gave him a significant bump and into 5* status following the AAU season and USA Basketball tryouts where he won camp MVP. Clearly, ESPN is the outlier, so I'd take their ranking with a grain of salt.

Why the hell are you looking at ESPN rankings anyways. Does nothing for you my man

Didn’t you say similarly with Kessler and Georgia? There’s tons of guys that are D1 at IMG, essentially the whole roster, just seems strange you’re specifically worried about Murrell. Again, if they had mutual schools and discussed even being friends ok, but you seem to be worrying over nothing.
I was wrong about Kessler and probably am worrying about nothing. Hoping Springer decides to announce this week, that way the worrying dissipates

@TnSmith Man recruits aren’t reading this forum
00000000000000000000000000000000']\
They do, indeed; and so do their parents and grandparents and coaches ---- and opposing coaches who print the kind of negative garbage that some of the opposing team's fans posing as VOL fans are putting on this site---as well as some of the white trash comments.

Cliff notes to those that can’t watch right now?

  • Great visit - the main thing that stood out to him was the fans - they were great, love the players, and support the team and program to the fullest.
  • The environment - coaches, players, everything had a family feel - he thought that was pretty good.
  • He's been here a few times because of his AAU team - his coach has brought the team on campus a couple of times.
  • Favorite part of the weekend: Watching the team practice. - The intensity, everyone locked in and going hard; real competitive. Shows you how you have to step your game up and how one has to be locked in all the time.
  • Talked about player development and how the team has raised its profile since Tennessee first started recruiting him as a freshman, their rise to #1 last season without top 100 players, how the Vols had three players taken in the NBA draft, the player improvement while in college - all stood out to him.
  • As he makes the final decision among the 3 programs, the most important thing will be where he can best fit in where he can do the best he possibly can.
  • Talked about his foot injury- it's fully healed and he was cleared to play last week.
  • Talked about IMG Academy and the level of competition.
  • Has no timetable for an announcement. Once he makes his final decision, he'll make the announcement.

Sounds positive. I won't get excited till he pulls the trigger, but I remain hopeful. I'm trusting that the recruiting experts aren't wrong on this one. He would be an absolutely massive addition.
I know it’s only Monday morning but, it’s killing me! I keep checking to see if anyone is posting any tidbits about this kid pulling the trigger and becoming a Vol!
GBO!!

I don't anticipate we'll hear anything till closer to November, but that is just my opinion. He hasn't seemed to be in any rush to announce, which makes sense. He isn't an early enrollee.
