When we look back in 4 years I wonder if we will consider Mashack the jewel of this recruiting classView attachment 375361
The key to the Eagles run in June? Tennessee-bound wing Jahmai Mashack. “The kid is just driven, he wanted it… and nobody is gonna get in his way or stop him from his goals,” Kleckner said.

I hate he didn’t get here earlier, but I feel sure the staff gave him a “mulligan” in that he put his obligations to his high school team first and foremost. A standout in talent, drive, and commitment. Just think of how much he will mean to Vol basketball. This kid is built almost like Yves Pons and he just graduated high school. Barnes is going to love his work ethic.
Random thought after watching those highlights, it seems like every team from high school to the NBA switches everything on picks, even picks that are not really that aggressive as a defensive strategy. Mashack would start on Amari and then a screen would come and they would switch it even if it was kind of weak. I don't watch that much NBA but have watched some of the playoffs and they seem to do it too. I know Barnes likes to recruit those 6-5-6-7 guys that can switch on everything defensively but it seems like there is still time to instruct players to fight through a screen and stay on your man. Maybe showing my age since that is how we were taught.Skip to 16:57 for a big time block Jahmai had on Amari. Amari dominated most of the game with 37 points till Mashack shut him down in the 4th.

It seems a lot more prominent in the NBA and it's quite irritating. I think players are just paranoid they'll be called for a foul. Players like Harden, Trae etc are good at drawing fouls (flopping) in that scenario once the defender gets stuck between the screener/ ball handler. Bailey likely has that ability as well.
Here's a good video breaking down how effectively Harden uses that tactic:
In those highlights Bailey looked really good. Quick but under control, nice shooting stroke, good feel for the game. Wish we could get him.The video was good and Jahmai played pretty well. He did seem to have trouble with Bailey's quickness, getting beat off the dribble quite easily 3 or 4 times for layups. He does look like a dude who can step up the physicality and intensity on the next level, though.
Kids also seem to do a lot more silly stare downs and flexing for everything they do during the game than I've ever seen. I was happy to see a few quick layups the other way while some dude was celebrating himself on the other end.
I’m sure that has something to do with it and the fact that so many of these great perimeter players only need a small window to get their shot off. Still it seems like a copy cat kind of strategy that everyone uses now even if it creates bad match ups on defense.
We all get excited for the 5 stars like Keon and Chandler, but imo it is multi year kids like Mashack that are the key to our programs success. He seems like the kind of player that could be a fan favorite for years. There are several years in the last like 15 years where Jahmai would be our highest-rated recruit.
The level UT is recruiting at under Barnes right now is outstanding.
