Several things can happen. A court could threaten to jail the journalist if they don't divulge the source(Ranges from home confinement to up to 3-7 months in jail). The only way the journalist can reveal their source is with permission from the source. If the journalist reveals the source without the sources permission then the source can sue the journalist for civil liability to which the journalist will have no protection.

Both ( all ) parties should be concerned that even the possibility of this could be going on , it’s the very thing that undermines a democracy . Something we read about in other countries and think COUP.

Also, if Trump was doing something illegal or dangerous to national security, this person could have gone to the press about it and it would have made every headline.

I have to wonder if this person actually works in the White House or is simply someone trying to stir up trouble, especially by using words that Pence is known to use and thereby attempting to get Trump to distrust him. This is a dangerous precedent.
