KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Lady Vols return home after two straight road matches, hosting Missouri in a 7 p.m. ET contest on Thursday that will be streamed on SECN+.

Tennessee (7-3-1, 3-1 SEC) enters the match with some momentum, having taken down previously undefeated and 13th-ranked Ole Miss on the road on Friday in a 1-0 victory. UT dominated possession, taking 18 shots to just nine by the Rebels and 12 corner kicks to their two. Redshirt-junior Jaida Thomas scored the lone goal of the match in the 79th minute off a cross from senior Claudia Dipasupil.

Mizzou (4-5-2, 1-2-1 SEC) comes to Knoxville on the heels of a 0-0 tie against #21 Mississippi State at home on Friday.

The Lady Vols own a 7-2-1 advantage in the all-time series against the Tigers and are a perfect 5-0 when playing UM in Regal Stadium. The teams last met on Sept. 26, 2021, when the Big Orange took a 2-1 victory in double overtime on the road.

UP NEXT: The Lady Vols will travel to Georgia for a 4 p.m. ET contest on Sunday that will be streamed on SECN+.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS: Missouri went 7-10 overall and 3-7 in conference games last season. The Tigers return five starters from the 2021 squad and were picked to finish 13th in the SEC as voted on by the league's coaches.
TOP-10 NUMBERS: UT has scored 34 goals on the year to rank fifth in the country in scoring offense at 3.09. With 8.82 points per game and 9.64 shots on goal per game, the Lady Vols rank sixth and eighth, respectively.

EVERYONE IS DANGEROUS: With the fifth-ranked scoring offense in the country, it's no surprise that Tennessee has multiple offensive threats. Twelve Lady Vols have carded a goal so far this season, and 15 have tallied an assist.

OFFENSIVELY SPEAKING: The Lady Vols lead the SEC in goals per game (3.09) and corner kicks per game (7.45) and are second in assists per game (2.64) and shots per game (19.00)

KEEPING IT CLEAN: Tennessee has committed the fewest fouls of any team in the SEC, averaging just 6.64 fouls per game. Arkansas ranks highest in fouls per game at 11.18.

WEEKLY HONORS: Two Lady Vols earned SEC Player of the Week honors following UT's 1-0 victory at #13 Ole Miss. Jaida Thomas, who saw 79 minutes of action and scored the game-winner, was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Lawson Renie was named Defensive Player of the Week for her 90-minute effort anchoring the Tennessee back line as they shut out previously undefeated Ole Miss, limiting them to just three shots on goal.

TENNESSEE ON TOP: The Lady Vols were picked to finish first in the SEC as voted on by the conference's 14 head coaches. UT is coming off a 2021 campaign in which it won a program-best 20 games, clinching an SEC Tournament Championship and going 20-3 en route to the NCAA Round of 16.

Two more players from Richmond United--interesting. They'll join the three from that club who are freshman this year. Not a lot about these sisters on the web, however. This would be the second set of sisters from Richmond United to play for UT. Paige and Claire Franks started playing for us in 2016/17. Paige, one year younger than her sister, was a top midfield recruit, her sister considered a less talented player, also a midfielder. Unfortunately for Paige, that was a period when we had a lot of talent and some very good and experienced midfielders--Cousins, Bialczak and O'Keefe. As a result, Paige Franks never got to play midfield, which was the only position, given her size, build and skill set, she was suited to play. Pensky played her some at outside back, but it didn't work very well and Paige ended up transferring. Claire stayed and ended up starting as a senior, and maybe as a junior--a decent player, I would say.

I'd like to see us sign a stud defender. That's what we need. We've got a number of freshmen who were signed as defenders, but none have played much and not sure how good any of them are at this point.

Next four games are big. We need to start asserting ourselves. The performance against Ole Miss was encouraging but would help to put more than one ball in the net. We have the talent to do it.

Layla Shell’s older sister Taylor Shell a senior at Miami University who plays for the Hurricanes. She is the reason Layla started playing soccer.

Behind the Ball with Lady Vol Taylor Huff • #41
The reigning SEC Freshman of the Year sits down with Brian to discuss her journey to Tennessee, defending the SEC crown, and her USWNT goals.

Ohio native Taylor Huff is one of the most hyped players to put on a Lady Vol soccer jersey since Jamaica international Bunny Shaw.

The four-time High School All-American and 2020 National Player of the Year joined Tennessee in 2021. In her first season, she made the SEC All-Freshman Team and All-SEC Second Team, helping the team to its first SEC Tournament crown in more than a decade.

Huff was called into the U.S. women’s national team’s under-20 roster in the spring. This season, she leads an all-star Lady Vols squad with five assists (on top of three goals).

We chat with her about her ambitions of professional soccer, the reason she plays with the #13 (which was retired at Madison Comprehensive High school after her graduation), and why Krystal’s is the best fast food for ultimate soccer performance (psst…please sponsor us).

We definitely outplayed them the problem is we did not out score them. Do we practice corners at all? Diasupil serves the ball away from the goal most of the time. Fusco is our best server but we are really bad in the air.

I wish they’d drive their corners rather than floating the ball. Without players who are good in the air, let the ball do the work.

Forwards, with the exception of George, aren’t keeping the ball. Lot’s of weak giveaways putting pressure on the backs.
