⚽️Lady Vols Soccer Thread

Just read that the transfer portal opens on Nov. 8. I'm not sure how long it is open for players to enter their names--I think there are two windows.

I think that Tennessee should focus more on getting a couple of good transfers every year. You almost have to because you're competitors will. The transfers will have more experience--and if they are both talented AND experienced--you are suddenly at a disadvantage. Bama has relied on transfers, to an certain extent. I know that at least two of its best players are transfers--and I think the number might be higher than that. You've got to be good at evaluating the potential and talent of transfers--but there are always a lot of players in the portal, and so the possibility to upgrade is very real. We got no transfers last year and that was probably a mistake. George was a transfer--one of our best players for the last 3/4 years. We seem to be getting commits from a lot of club players, and if we have a big group coming in every year, you hamstring your ability to sign transfers.

Ole Miss beat LSU on PKs to win the first game of the tournament after the two teams battled to a scoreless draw in regulation and
through 2 overtimes. It was Mississippi's first win after losing six straight conference games to end the season, and came just days after LSU had
thumped the Rebels, 4-1, in regular-season finale. Ole Miss, the 10th seed, will next play South Carolina. I give the Rebels little chance of winning that game, mostly because they're not very good and also because they just had to play a double OT game to get to the quarterfinal.

The second OT period in this game apparently ended with an actual fight between LSU and Ole Miss players. I didn't see it--but I hear that 3 red cards were given out--one to an Ole Miss player and 2 to LSU players. That means that Ole Miss player will not play in the Rebel's next game--and the 2 LSU players will not be eligible to play in the their team's first NCAA game--and I think LSU will squeeze into the tournament.

I watched the first OT, and it ended with an LSU player literally grabbing and throwing an Ole Miss player to the ground--and then she acted shocked that she got a yellow card. That might have set the stage for the subsequent fight.

The NCAA has our current RPI at 27. Not great. We're probably looking at a 6 or 7 seed in the tourney unless we win a couple of games. Henderson has us as a 7 seed right now--but he also has LSU as a 7 seed, and they have a lower RPI than us and a weaker record. Let's beat Georgia and go from there.

Ole Miss has an incredible goalkeeper. Didn’t let any through during the penalty kicks. Believe she also won SEC goalkeeper of the year.
