I am watching the replay of last year's Orange Bowl game. I am still amazed at how much the announcers were so pro Clemson. It is comical how the game turned out and how they had to eat crow by the end of the game.
The deal mostly is that announcers/general observers tend to give the benefit of the doubt to teams that have won recently. Clemson had won 2 national championships, been to 5-6 playoffs and a NY6 bowl nearly every year the last decade, last year was our first season of double digit wins in 15 years. I remember when we used to get the benefit of the doubt. In fact, myself and many other Vol fans realized we were slipping before most national media types did in the 00's. The 85/86 Sugar Bowl was the same deal. Miami was two years removed from a national championship, and we hadn't won the SEC in 16 years prior to that season, hadn't been to the Sugar Bowl in 14 years. This is just human nature, many Vol fans absolutely couldn't be convinced either of our games with Pitt would be close these last two years because they've been trash for years when they actually had good teams.

That may be true because we let USC run us out of the stadium. However, we had beaten Alabama, LSU, and Georgia and Milton showed that he could run the offense as well as the defense played much better after their complete breakdown against USC. Those who made the rankings had placed a lot of faith in Tennessee’s play to keep them in the top ten in the Nation It was the attitude of the announcers during the first half of the game which demonstrated they thought that Tennessee was going to lose the Orange Bowl. It was definitely an exhibition of disrespect of Tennessee’s game. Fortunately, the final score finally demonstrated they were the superior team.

What I'm saying is these patterns are established over a period of years. If we win consistently we'll start getting more respect, Rome wasn't built in a day and we weren't going to get back everything we had lost respect wise because we went 10-2, even though though wins over 10-2 Bama, 9-4 LSU and 6-6 Florida were among them. We took a positive step forward last year but we gotta string multiple years like that together to start getting the deference Clemson gets again.

Haven't watched the replay yet but what I do remember is our front 7 absolutely getting after Clemson. You can have all the open WR's u want but it doesn't mean a thing if your QB is getting abused. I almost felt sorry for the kid. He is probably still seeing Beasley in his sleep. That guy was out there dropping the sledgehammer.
Kinda reminded me of watching JG in 2019. He spent more time on his back than on his feet.
