1/3 of Team Has Never Flown On Airplane. Really?

CBJ said in press conference this week that a third of the travel team has never flown on a plane before. I can't believe that. How did they travel for their official visits? CBJ says he doesn't want the youth of the team to be an excuse, but he keeps talking about it, and exaggerating it. The number of freshmen in the 2 deep is exaggerated. It's all a clever ploy to keep the fan base patient. I would just like to read about something else for a change.

YOU are an idiot... You gotta think of where these kids came from... Your not getting rich kids or even middle class usually anyway... Not exaggarated at all... Just trying to use recruiting tools

Seriously?? I'll bet the first road trip as a freshman has been the first plane flight for the majority of the kids that have ever come through the program.

I don't see what the problem is with being honest. It's not an excuse. It's a fact. To think it's a "clever ploy" is comical.

Yea, I laughed when reading that myself.

Have have NO PROBLEM believing that. Most of our players are from close enough to drive to campus....why fly?

I hope your family now owns a part of that company lol.

It was a Caribbean island hoping excursion on a private plane. The pilot was a Swiss banker/investor. This was 2004, before the world-wide economic recession that ended his lavish, unsustainable lifestyle funded by money he didn't really have.

Not uncommon for people in the South. Most of us have family within driving distance. I've found people in more populous states tend to fly more growing up because they have family that's more spread out.

Or they have more money and can take fancier vacations.

I find this rather insulting. I am from the South and I have flown all over Europe and the US, Canada, Caribbean, and our 2 non contiguous states. I have family in the South but do not limit vacations to visiting family. I have flown since I was 14 and am not considered rich, old maybe not rich.

I'm sure most of the young men haven't had to fly before. I'm 30 and in the military and haven't ever flown. I don't understand all the fuss....

Depending on who you fly it's just about cheaper than driving anymore. I can fly to PCB or Pensacola from Nashville for bout $140-160 round trip on Southwest. It would be at least two tanks of gas there and back if I was driving. Even in a small car that's $100+, but compound it with a truck or SUV and you're likely looking at $200+.

No way a kid can drive from SoFL, TX, NOLA etc for less than they can flying.

I just booked a round trip to pcb airport for $134 from Nashville on swa

Not saying that CBJ is making up the 1/3 number, but I do agree with the OP in that Jones is going out of his way to play the youth card every chance he gets. It's kinda hard to convince your team that youth is no excuse when they hear you talk about it every time you see a mike.

No reason to be insulted, it's just reality. Most Americans don't even have a passport, and I'm sure an even smaller percentage of people from the south do. Most people from the south only travel abroad for military or missionary purposes. A number of factors come into play such as average income, the plethora of diverse vacation spots in the US, and a lack of knowledge and curiosity about the rest of the world. For example, if you walked down main street of my hometown with a blank political outline map of Europe and asked 50 random people to identify different countries, I would expect the following results:

Italy: 20/50
France: 15/50
Germany: 10/50
Sweden: 5/50
Switzerland: 1/50
Serbia: huh

I think you're wrong. But if it is true, older folks saying modern public education sucks so bad something needs to be done to hold teachers accountablr are right.

You do realize air travel has only become affordable for the average joe within that last decade or so. After the airline deregulation it took some time for the competition to show up to lower prices. Also these are football players..they aren't coming from families flush with a lot of cash for the most part.

Do you think recruits like it or dislike it when CBJ talks about playing a bunch of young players?

I think they care a whole lot more about winning. All the talk about youth sounds like he's preparing the base for a poor showing.

Team charters used to be a great deal at Delta. We used to get to layover in the destination city which meant not only would I get to take the Big Orange to OKC.. but stay for the game. Now they are buried in a regular trip. That being said, I would love to fly a Big Orange charter just once before I retire.

Love ya Orange, thanks for flying on MY airplane.

Yeah, that's not an answer to the question.

Recruits want to go where they can play and play early.

The talk about youth is because we are youthful. Do you believe we actually have a well balanced, mature team or a more youthful, less mature team than most SEC teams?
