1/3 of Team Has Never Flown On Airplane. Really?

CBJ said in press conference this week that a third of the travel team has never flown on a plane before. I can't believe that.

So, you are calling Butch Jones a liar? Or are you calling him a stupid idiot? Which?

CBJ said in press conference this week that a third of the travel team has never flown on a plane before. I can't believe that. How did they travel for their official visits? CBJ says he doesn't want the youth of the team to be an excuse, but he keeps talking about it, and exaggerating it. The number of freshmen in the 2 deep is exaggerated. It's all a clever ploy to keep the fan base patient. I would just like to read about something else for a change.

Then why on earth did you start a thread about it? I mean, good Gawd, y'all.

I didn't take what he said to mean they'd literally never flown before period. I took it to mean that they'd never flown to an adverse environment for a collegiate road game...kind of emphasizng our youth in that respect. I could be terribly incorrect, but that's how I read the comments.

I logged several hundred thousand miles with my company before I retired. I'm sure that some on here have done more. But, every kid playing CFB doesn't have the advantages that I did. Not sure why some find it odd that they have never flown. Flying has never been a cheap mode of transportation. A lot of these kids don't even have date money, or movie money. Hard to believe, I know.

Depending on who you fly it's just about cheaper than driving anymore. I can fly to PCB or Pensacola from Nashville for bout $140-160 round trip on Southwest. It would be at least two tanks of gas there and back if I was driving. Even in a small car that's $100+, but compound it with a truck or SUV and you're likely looking at $200+.

No way a kid can drive from SoFL, TX, NOLA etc for less than they can flying.

Reading through this thread, I'm actually surprised how many people haven't flown.

I thought nearly everyone had.

At the age of 10 I had an airplane experience I'll never forget. Though it struck me as odd, no alarm bells were triggered when the pilot took the unprecedented pre-flight measure of ensuring that my seatbelt was securely fastened. Soon after reaching cruising altitude, the pilot decided to try his hand at simulating a WWII dive bombing mission. No one told little Barney about this pre flight, so naturally I started screaming bloody murder presuming death was near until my mother assuaged my fears with promises that everything was going according to plan. We did it a few more times, suffice to say it was the best roller coaster ride of my life. I even experienced a few seconds of zero gravity with objects floating about the cabin as if we were in space.

I think I'm missing something...

WHY did the pilot do this??

There is a large number of people that have never flown. This is a non issue. I have flown several time but my wife refuses to. I know several people that do not fly. IIRC, John Madden did not fly during his long career of covering NFL games.

Wow. That's pretty incredible.

And if those who have yet to fly were knowledgeable of the "pleasures" of going through present-day security, they would NEVER, EVER even think of flying.

Haven't flown commercially, but I have picked up kids at the ATL airport at the terminal, so I've been through security. Insanely long line, but it moved well.

Captain Oveur by chance??

Someone invented this thing called a wheel and it's revolutionized travel. You don't need to fly to get places now.

Madden flew during his coaching days out of necessity but hated it as he has a phobia with flying. When he went into broadcasting he had it written into his contract that he could travel by ground. They provided him with a tricked out motor home that was as nice as most 5 star resorts and he had a full time driver. Most of us would welcome such plush accomodations but it no doubt cost way more than if he had flown first class.
