how can lowly vanderbilt and miss state have a bigger reserve than UT?? it doesn't make any sense.

Have you seen their stadiums? Ever been to their campuses? Not exactly the epicenter of gameday atmospheres.

Doesn't that make it even more pathetic that Tennessee has a lower reserve than them, then?

Who cares about the atmospheres there - each of those schools has had a better product on the field over the last few years and more stability with coaching staffs.

Anyone else have a hard time believing that the rest of the SEC has a $50-$100 million reserve? I just don't buy that. Granted when Hart said the rest of the SEC I'm guess he was referring to a few schools, but my skepticism still stands.

Ideally, you want more than 20 million in your reserve fund.

Uh, no. Proves my point that they have higher reserves because they don't invest as much money back into their program.

Tennessee does not have low reserves because they are investing all the money back into the program. There's been a shi*tty program on the field lately and several coaching staff buyouts. That's drained most of the cash, not investments. I believe Hart admitted this himself in the press conference.

Instead of apologizing, how about you just delete that crap?

Humor.

My grandmother went through the same thing and she joked about it. Seemed to make it much easier for her. It's not like a mad a joke about someone stroking out mid-broadcast.

So the Neyland renovations and the new athletic training facility which cost approximately 200 mil was a farce?

The reserves would be much higher if they didn't have to buy out all of these people. Tennessee has always made investments and will continue to do so, and the reserve has been an issue until now because the product has been awful.

Way to deflect away from some of the main reasons the reserve is as low as it is. Would love to see your analytical breakdown as to how the buyouts account for the 48+ mil in reserves that Hart referred to pertaining other SEC schools.

Can someone flesh this out? Hart said it was "unheard of in the SEC" - what's the target number? What has it been in the past?

Someone took some extra cash with them while they were at UT...to have so little cash left, there are some UT dollars in the Cayman Islands...

Quoted from a Hyams article that came out earlier this year. I was off on the "approaching 250 million" for bammer.

"The deficit reduced the athletic department’s reserve fund to just under $2 million. The next lowest reserve fund of any other SEC school is $10 million, then $25 million. Alabama’s reserve fund is over $80 million."
