Records of FBS regular season and conference championship opponents:
Alabama: 88-66 (57.4%)
Ohio State: 93-73 (56.0%)
FSU: 84-69 (54.9%)
Oregon: 85-69 (55.2%)
Doesn't seem like they played easier competition than anyone else besides Bama, who played several more top 25 teams. And they didn't have very many close calls either.
Your post is factual and I appreciate that, but just look at their schedule this year and those opponents week one outcomes:
09.07 @ Virginia Tech
09.12 vs Hawaii - Beat Colorado 28-20
09.19 vs Northern Illinois - Beat UNLV 38-30
09.26 vs Western Michigan - Lost to Michigan State 24-37
10.03 @ Indiana - Beat Southern Illinois 48-47
10.10 vs Maryland - Beat Richmond 50-21
10.17 vs Penn State - Lost to Temple 10-27
10.24 @ Rutgers - Beat Norfolk State 63-13
11.07 vs Minnesota - Lost to TCU 17-23
11.14 @ Illinois - Beat Kent State 52-3
11.21 vs Michigan State - Beat Western Michigan 37-24
11.28 @ Michigan - Lost to Utah 17-24
I just don't see how you could possibly argue this is anything other than a very weak schedule. I have no doubt OSU will be in the playoffs again this year.
