george uko (chino, calif./don lugo) took his official visit to ucla this past weekend. It's been a strange relationship between uko and the bruins since last spring but following his visit, it looks like ucla is now a serious player for the talented tackle.
"i had a great visit to ucla," uko said. "they definitely moved way up for me but i really can't say how high right now. I just want to get through my visits and then i'll make my decision, i really don't want to rank the schools until then.
"ucla has a lot to offer though. It felt like i was part of a family at ucla, my parents felt the same thing, they loved it there. The players were great to hang with, the other recruits were real cool and i already love the coaching staff.
Uko has always mentioned the opportunity to play early for the bruins and that was made even more clear over the weekend.
"it's crazy what they lose at tackle," uko said. "i mean, they lose everyone, there is literally no one ahead of me if i went there. Almost any dt could go in there and play early. So the combination of early playing time and playing for coach howard are both big for me.
"i have some great choices and i can't go wrong with any of them so i'm just going to finish off the visits and then break it all down. January 2 at the ua game, i'll make my pick and it's going to be very tough, that's for sure. Ucla gave me a lot to think about and i'm sure oregon and usc will be great visits as well so we'll see what happens."
