I do agree that this whole saga was dragged out wayyy too long. If the kid knew three weeks ago, why did he not just commit and move on. Instead, he waited 3 weeks so he could get 10 seconds of fame on ESPN. I am glad to have him at USC but I thought the whole thing was selfish and over the top in my opinion.

I do think that the whole delay did cost you other qb recruits and it really makes you wonder where they heck we are going in this whole recruiting process.

If he dragged this out until signing day and left us high and dry, I'd agree with you. In reality, it's July and the coaching staff has ample time to pursue other prospects. If they can't find a fallback option or currently committed prospect and secure them by next February, then we have bigger problems than JS.

If Kiffin had already contacted him that same week, it would have been a violation. You can call a prospect once per week.

You are allowed one phone call per week but it is also very common for a coach to just email the recruit and say "call me" if they wanted to talk

it was WAY over the top. The national spotlight on a kid who is barely a top 100 player? When has that ever happened? It's one thing for guys like Barkley and Jimmy Clausen who were so highly regarded...

Good point about the presser and I have read in other places (on this forum) about how Jesse will reel in the recruits and now we are out on the receivers. In all honesty I haven't heard a single player say "if Scroggins goes to UT then I am in". A good QB will help but a noticeable improvement on offense this year will do a lot more. I think everyone was so intent on getting Jesse they thought he would solve all of our needs. Bryce Brown didn't bring in the flood of offensive lineman. Tennessee is the product we are selling, not who is on the roster. The coaches have to convince these kids we will be a player and they can be a part of it.

Good point. I guess we have been all caught up in trying to bring in a big name to get big recruits. But you make a very valid point we all seem to overlook. The kids have to want to play for a school, not the player next to them.
