I really like this kids accuracy, but what is gonna happen the first time he gets popped by a legit SEC d-lineman? I mean he is 2 inches taller than Ainge and 30 lbs lighter. Skinny and incredibly slow. Legit concerns imo.

Legit Concerns...yes, but he is still 17 yrs old. A lot can happen in the next 12-14 months. The pros defenitly out weigh the cons. You can hit the weight room and gain 20 lbs......kind of hard to hit the weight room and gain 6'6. I was a Scroggins fan, but I am slowly starting to like Bray's upside.

I am from the central section in ca. After hearing about Tennessee's interest in Bray, i came across this forum. A couple of things about Bray. He might be faster now than his time of 5.45. I think that was timed at the army all american combine in Jan. He ran a 5.1 (which is still not fast) at the national underclassmen combine in may. He is currently in Oklahoma for their top 100 camp. Bray is a 3 sport athlete at Kingsburg and one of the best basketball players in the section and all league baseball player. He has never concentrated solely on football until this spring and summer. He has incredible vision and accuracy and that's is one of things that seperates him from alot of qb's. He will get stronger and faster when put in strength and conditioning programs. I think he has an oustanding future ahead.

how much weight can a kid conceivably gain in a year? i really like what i am hearing about this kid, but we arent in a great position to redshirt a qb, unless Ginger or Lamaison suprises.

Hey flip999:
Since you are obviously pretty close to the situation, what's your take on UT's chances to get Bray. Any chance he shows up in Knoxville after he finishes his OK camp?
If he visits UT, then I like our chances. Keep us informed, and thanks for the info.

I'm glad to see that we made a verbal offer to this kid. He's definitely impressed some folks, so maybe there really is some good talent there.
I was afraid we'd just quit the QB search for a few months.

Some guy named Peyton Manning was on the skinny side when he came here.

Let's see... 6'6", laser accuracy, will be able to buff him up = strong arm to go with that accuracy(rocket laser arm)..... sounds like a Peyton Manning commercial...... I like it.

This is the guy I want UT to get now.

He won't be ready to start his freshman year, but I don't think any recruit we have a realistic shot at now will be ready that early.

On the other hand, Bray has a 6'6 frame and good accuracy. By his Soph or Junior year, he could be a beast with an arm that can make all of the throws. I know he's as slow as paint drying, but he could become a great pocket passer.

Plus, his inclusion and success in the Elite 11 camp (coupled with the shiny new 4* rating) gives him enough recruiting cred to sell the WRs and OLs that the coaches want.

about the weight question....this kid (if he comes here) has over a year...he could put on 20lbs in that time frame i would think

Before everybody gets on this (this is our 2010 qb) kick...this kid will definitely need a rs year imo......the benefit of getting this kid will be seen in recruiting this year

Ambles, Milton, Stone etc will know of this kid after the Elite 11 combine....we can sell it to offensive targets.....That is where this kid is golden in my opinion

I think Lamaison will be our starter next season no matter which QB we would have got. This guy does have some potential though, red shirt his freshman year and then I think he will be ready to compete for the starting job.

Actually this kid has the materials to be a really good QB. Yes he might be slow but after a college weight program with his size he might not need speed, because it will be like trying to tackle a Tight End behind center. Also his commitment to SDSU I dont think is solid, because when he commited they also took another QB. This kid has tremendous upside, plus he doesn't need all the hoopla and ESPN to make himself feel better.

He could easily put on 20lbs in a year, just feed the boy some good ol' beans and cornbread with some fried taters.

Well you do need to worry about weight of a 6'6 QB with 190lbs on his frame in the SEC
Some guys that tall have a really hard time putting weight on and I bet that is the case with this kid. He will have to work hard to get to 230lbs I assure you.

He'll get there, the coaches know what their doing and I'm pretty confident they'll be able to get him to where they want him to be. (My beans and cornbread comment was only meant to be humor, I know that the right kind of weight is needed.) :rock2:

I put this in the other thread but probably better here.

Bring Lamison in and let this kid learn the system and add weight and he might be the QB that is the talk of the country while Scroggins is warming up USC QBs and and sending in the plays from the sideline.

Not trying to be negative but how in the hell does he run a 5.4 fourty. Hell O-lineman are faster than that.

I am pretty sure we don't expect him to be running the ball or burning past people to catch it. If he has a good o-line by the time he starts playing then accuracy and arm strength is all we need. Plus being 6'6 makes it pretty easy to see most the field.

Not sure his 40 matters much. How many of our QBs ever made it 40 yrds down field?

Can he throw it 40 yrds?
Can he throw it to the right team?
