Robert Woods - Football Recruiting

Woods is one of the most prized California prospects in this class and it will be tough to get him away from the Pac-10, where he holds early offers from virtually every conference school. Expect various SEC teams to get involved as well, in addition to Notre Dame.

Many people expect him to finish as a 5* at Rivals. Here's a free article:

Seems like a nice kid. From the rivals vid, he looks to be a safety at the next level. Not much film on him though at WR. Kid is a "football" player for sure.

Nice kid, didn't see much in the vid of him as a WR but I agree as said above the kid is a player!

new info from ESPN's west coast blog---

You can make a strong argument that Serra (Gardena, Calif.) athlete Robert Woods is the top recruit in the West region for the Class of 2010, and a top 10 player nationally. Not many players have the ability to rank as the state's top player at three different positions but Woods could be the top in-state prospect at receiver, corner and safety.

Woods is a tremendous talent and has been one of the state's best players since his sophomore year. As a junior, he caught 81 balls for 1,378 yards and 19 touchdowns to go with 87 tackles and seven interceptions on defense. He returned two picks for scores and added five more touchdowns on kick and punt returns.

Woods has offers from just about every school out West and picked up two more in the last few days from Oklahoma and Tennessee.

"Things are going good now but Robert has kind of shut down his recruitment for the time being," Woods father Robert Sr. said. "He's really focusing on track and will be leaving for New York shortly with his track team.

"Once track is over, he'll turn his focus back to football. It's a fun time for him though and we're all excited to see how it all plays out."

Woods will attend the NIKE Camp at USC in April and on his questionnaire form, listed Cal as his top choice followed by UCLA, LSU, USC and Florida. Are the Bears really at the top of his board right now?

"Honestly, Robert doesn't have a leader or really a strong group of favorites, he's open to everyone," Robert Sr. said. "He'll go through the process and see what everyone has to say and he genuinely gets excited every time he gets a new offer. I think he's open to staying close to home or leaving the state, he's just looking for the best overall fit for himself."

I'm still not sure yet whether I'll stay on the West Coast. I've been to track events on the East Coast and I've seen that it's pretty cool out there, so I'm willing to leave the West Coast for college.

He said that he is currently planning to take all 5 official visits and he may delay his announcement till one of the all-star games. He hasn't decided which game he'll attend, but he was invited to both.

Woods/Ambles/Milton/Prater---any 2 of those 4 would give us some electrifying size and speed. We could start looking more like the Southern Cal receiving corps.

Woods appears to be far from a decision---

When I left Cal, it was like, 'Yeah, I'm going to Cal'. When I went to UCLA, it was like, 'Wow, I'm going to UCLA'. I went to USC, and felt like I might end up going to USC.

I need to just sit down and think about the pros and cons of each school without going off the excitement of being there.

My goal is to write down a top five or six before the season starts. That will save me the hassle of all the phone calls and stuff.

"Most schools are recruiting me for receiver and that's my favorite position as well," Woods said. "I would really love to play receiver and corner, that would be great because I love both positions, but if I had to choose just one, it would be receiver."

"I've been to UCLA, USC and Cal so far," Woods said. "I would like to take a few more unofficial visits to some West Coast schools so in the fall, I can take all my official visits to schools outside the region. I'm going to try and get out to Oregon and Stanford if I can and then I'll feel good about my official visits next year.

"I want to take all five and I'm still trying to figure out what schools to check out. I know Tennessee, Oklahoma and Notre Dame are three schools I want to visit for sure. I'm also hoping to hear more from schools like LSU and Florida, they haven't offered yet, but are showing me some interest so hopefully that will pick up.

Great news. Reel him in. Hopefully he'll visit us last so he sees how much better our coaching staff is than Oklahoma and Notre Dame. Weiss will be gone soon anyway.

"The only summer camp I'm going to is the USC Rising Stars Camp. I wanted to do UCLA's camp too but it's the same day as state finals for track so I'll have to miss it. Right now, I'm open to staying in state or leaving. I used to think I wanted to stay close to home, but after traveling around for track and seeing some new places, I'm now more open to leaving if I find the best opportunity for me."

Woods spoke with Allen Wallace at Scout.com and he mentioned Tennessee again among several other programs, that he's still considering.

From what I hear the new coaches are doing great. I haven’t really talked to them too much yet though. I still need to get to know all of them better, but that program is definitely coming up.

I know he said that he wanted to take an official visit to UT from watching the first video from the link that LV posted but after watch the video that TJ posted I don't get the UT vibe at all. He said in the video that he wanted to stay out west. Now that might change but as of now I think he's going to USC or UCLA.

Once he comes and sees those Autumn leaves changing and the +100,000 secreaming UT fans at a game that we WIN also, he'll change that mind real fast.
