'10 DE J.R. "Ego" Ferguson

Bumping this thread up. No love for Ego in a while. He is at the top of my list for D line that is uncommitted. The best attitude in an interview this side of J Smith!

Has the frame for DT.

Am I wrong that we still have a good Hargrave connection?

Look I think this class is going to have big mo going after we throttle UCLA with lots of 4 star talent in attendance.

Being famous in college as a DE often has to do with how much attention can be given you.

Who would not want to play with J Smith?

It sounds to me like Orgeron hasn't given him enough love. Some of those schools he was talking about probably have Ego as one of their top targets and spend a ton of time on him, but Ed O is hitting a bunch of players.

IMO, if he hits up Ego a bit more we could lock him up.

he has eliminated us

top 10: Cal, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Miami, LSU, Florida State, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland and UCLA.

Too bad,

I followed Ego for a while and I know that he will do very well at the next level. We have just too many bad *sses on our D line now. Boat is over flowing

With our current DLine class, I wouldnt be surprised in the least if most of the "big name" recruits that remain un-committed and have previously shown interest in us start to drop us from consideration. We have basically 4 Top 150 playes committed on the DL alone, along with the JC transfers like John Brown. Also, most the starters and impact players up front are back in 2010. Its "problems" like that, that I dont mind having at all again.....FINALLY!

For some reason, it seems like all of a sudden we stopped going after him. I haven't heard anything about him in forever...

I think you mean that Powell officially eliminates us soon which I agree with.

I still think we finish with Quarles...

officially out of this race...

ESPNU 150 defensive lineman J.R. Ferguson (Frederick, Md./Hargrave Military) has named 10 finalists, ESPN affiliate Web site InsideMDSports.com reports.

Maryland, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, LSU, South Carolina, Miami, Florida State, California and UCLA are left to battle for the highly-coveted senior.

InsideMDSports also reports that early playing opportunity and sticking at defensive end, not defensive tackle, will be two key factors in Ferguson's decision.

"Once you sign on the dotted line, you lose all leverage, so we're seeing who will actually give him that opportunity," J.R.'s father said. "We [also] don't have the desire to redshirt."

Ferguson, rated as the nation's No. 14 defensive tackle, does not have a timetable for his decision.

Last fall he registered 97 tackles and 16 sacks.

I wouldn't be surprised if we backed off after we got the Byrnes guys.

I definitely don't think we could have promised him early playing time at DE (without redshirting). Maybe if he had been willing to move to DT, it could have happened.

• Our good friends at EyeontheTigers.com (LSU) say that LSU has been informed that the Tigers are in the top three for ESPNU150 defensive lineman J.R. Ferguson (Frederick Md./Hargrave Military). The Tigers, Notre Dame and Oklahoma are the teams to beat. We've been hearing Miami is in the mix as well, so those four teams are the safe bets at this point.

If CLK is going to see him then maybe we can make a push?

officially out of this race...

Personally, I wouldn't have anything to do with this kid. His father sounds like he is way too involved and thinks he knows better than coaching staffs what is good for his son.

I don't see Coach O or the Kiffins being "leveraged" into guaranteeing a kid a spot at DE, especially if they feel he would be better used elsewhere.

Besides, we are stacked at DE.

What happened to this guy? I thought we had a chance and people seemed pretty excited and now we haven't heard anything from him in forever. Any news?

Ego's gonna make it a signing day decision.

"I kind of opened it back up recently, because coming here (to Hargrave), I was thinking about making an early decision but then I realized there was no rush." Ferguson said.
