'10 FL LB/DL Christian Jones

I would hate to lose copeland..

I see being urged to move on:
Harris
Pair
Broussard

I think we lose 3-6 of our current commits with grades, being pushed out, etc...

!!! I understand why you did not want to start a thread about it, but I wish when I was being raked over the coals for saying the same thing, a few of the other people who saw the future closing power of this staff and the fact that we were holding cards that were less than jacks with aces sitting there to pick up would have said something.

We're going to have to let some guys go that we know are going to be good players...but when you have great ones on the line, you have to do what you have to do.

I don't think anybody in the world, including this staff, had any idea that the Lane Train was going to have this much success on the trail.

Mayja I think you are wrong about the staff knowing.

Lane said on sportscenter in a clip that will be reused and that is from the start of the season,
"My goal is to have the number 1 recruiting class this year, and top 5 classes from here on out after that".

Lane and Ed O etc knew that TN had no one GREAT except B Brown, J Jackson really left after Berry leaves to scare players off. Now next year TN will have the same issue Florida and Bama have in that why would a stud LB want to come play behind C Jones and Luc? Well maybe 1 will, but 2? Nope.... PT will become an issue when we have DE and LB locked up with just stud after stud. We will try to do what P Carroll does by saying everyone gets to compete, but we will have to struggle. The fact that struggling will produce a top 5 class is what makes this staff so absurdly good!

Andrews is making an announcement today. I wonder who they would announce as the DC replacement and how that would impact our recruitment of Jones.

I must admit MHF...you were dead on when it comes to this. I can't fully support trying to speculate on who will and won't be a part of this class, but its becoming apperant that with all the talent we seem to be leading for that we will inevitabley either have to greyshirt or send some kids packing. I hate that because kids like Broussard and Pair have been committed to us for a while now and I would never want to discount any athlete that WANTS to come here more than most other places. Facts remain, though, that we're going to have to make some tough decisions.

Here's to you, buddy. I apologize for all the criticism and digs. Turns out, you may be spot on. Even if you're not 100% correct, there was much more logic in what you were saying than most of us gave credit for.

Jrob thanks for the kind words. I think I did not follow recruiting for a while so I was able to be absurdly optimistic, and that worked out in this case because we have the greatest recruiting staff in current CFB.

I also think that Lane had some idea of the haul by September, but that over the summer when we took some commits we were not sure how we would finish.

If we had lost by 30-40 to either Florida or Alabama I think the staff would not be having the success they are now. I think that these kids can buy in that we would have won against Alabama with them, or against UCLA with them, against Auburn with them. The only game that was not incredibly close that we lost was Florida.

It will be interesting to see how numbers work out. I am even more concerned now than I was when I look!

You love mashed potatoes but you leave some on your plate and just forgot about them when the buffet has the greatest roast beef and lamb and duck that you have ever eaten.

Hahaaha that may be the worst recruiting analogy ever...But while M Pair is a nice kid and while he may develop into something great, with J James and Chaz Green and Coleman or Robinson and Cullen I just think he ends up somewhere else.

I don't like mashed potatoes...something about the consistency makes me think of vomit. Irrelevent, however.

In a weird way, thats a great analogy. Its tough to keep committed players that are quality players, but may take some time to develop when you have physical freaks knocking on your door, wanting to come on in.

It just amazes me the kind of program that these guys are trying to build. They aren't taking the leftovers or the kids that others were a bit hesitant to take (like Fulmer). They're going for the most talented players in the nation....and, for the most part, they're holding their own...even with a team on the field that finished below .500 last season and already has 4 losses this year. Unheard of. There really is no precedent for what is going on. We aren't a talent rich state like FL, TX or CA...so its heard to compare what a program like USC did at the beginning of the decade. They had a pool in their backyard. We have to go to the Y to take a dip.

How's that for another recruiting analogy?!

I think Jones ends up at FSU. It will be an absolute battle, but I think loyalty wins out in the end. FSU is about to completely reorganize their defensive staff. It will depend on the trust and relationship Jones develops with them. On signing day, I think he's a nole. I had these feelings before, but a Nole insider just confirmed them on rivals.

Henderson I asked on another thread about Andrews announcement today. It is in 15 minutes I think. What are they going to do that tells Christian that they are turning it around? How can they possibly convince him he will do better than learning under Monte?

A guy like Jones will be nearly impossible to pull if FSU can bring in a solid staff. The fact that he's waiting til NSD to commit can only help FSU...by that time they should have a somewhat new defensive regime and will have been hounding CJones and family for a while.

If there's anyone that can sway him though, it's Monte.

From what I read, Andrews is retiring and they are bringing in an entirely new defensive staff. Names have been rumored but nothing is set in stone. It's less about them bringing in better coaches, and more about family loyalty to FSU. They only reason we got in it with him is because of all the turmoil with the FSU staff.

Would have been better for us if he stuck around for one more year like Bowden wanted.

Looks like he is having a good time.

Fulmer pulled in plenty of top recruits in his day.... No reason to say foolish things to get your point across...
