Mason is a pro-style passer out of Marietta (GA) Lassiter.

He just received an offer from Iowa and as a result they have claimed the top spot.

"Iowa is at the top of my list. I would say Tennessee is number two and then ECU. Everything will depend on who offers me."

Based on Mason's comments in interviews and some other things I've come across, Tennessee would be the school to beat if they get involved. With a new coach and a new offense, Mason's just now starting to really develop as a passer and if he continues to work, his arm strength and his reads will continue to improve. If he continues to take in junior days and camps, I would expect his offer list to swell.

He was recently in attendance for Tennessee's junior day.

He seems like a solid prospect. I wouldn't mind taking him as our 2nd QB in the class and having him redshirt behind Heaps/Sims/whoever else we go after.

Same school Lutzenkirschen went to???? I think it is, right?

I watched his films last night and he has great mechanics...he could always have a quicker release, but he has a good throwing motion. Mark Smith would definitely help his arm strength....already has great accuracy. Overall I think he would be a steal as a number 2 qb in this class. This guy, Bo Wallace, Brunetti, or Tyler Brosius are my faves for #2.

I watched this kid play 5 games last year and he was terrific. He stayed in the pocket except when forced to scramble and even then he kept his eyes downfield constantly and picked up open receivers at the last second. He never flushed early from the pocket and was extremely accurate. The only concern I would have is arm strength, it appeared 45-55 yards was about it. Lassiter had been a doormat team for a number of years but this kid along with Philip Lutzenkirchen and a new coaching staff took Lassiter to the Georgia HS Playoffs where they won their first game over a favored opponent. I think with a bit more weight and arm strength this kid is going to be a top level QB for some lucky team.

recent quote---

"My new off season QB coach is Dave Archer. Tee Martin who coached me the past 2 years took a coaching job in New Mexico so I had to find a new coach. Coach Dave is working with me on all the fundamentals of a QB, breaking down game film and reading defenses. Coach Dave is a great guy and he has a wealth of experience in QB play as a 13 year NFL QB."

Is that from a pay site?

yeah, buddy, it's from a Scout article from March 9th I think. his uncle is apparently a big TN supporter. Between Tee and his uncle, we have a couple guys championing Tennessee, it's just a matter of whether or not he gets offered.

IMO we should wait until we get a guy like Heaps, Sims, Scroggins, etc. and THAN offer this guy. Hopefully it won't piss off our #1 guy.

His video was pretty impressive, exceeded my expectations.

My only concern would be arm strength, but he may be able to chuck it, hard to tell on a short highlight clip.

I'm a fan of us offering this kid. Who else other than Iowa is looking at him?

I really like Scroggins he would be really good for UT!

I may not look good on paper, but IMO Scroggins would be just as good of a pickup as Heaps or Sims. The only guy i'd really take above him is Bell. Also, i think we have a much better shot at him than we do at Heaps or Sims.
