For thoes asking Hutson Mason will be in Ktown this Saturday. He has received several calls and emails trying to sway him to other schools and their spring games but he had promised Coach Chaney he would be in for UT's game and he will be there. I trust UT will get a move on! When you turn other schools down you would like to know it doesn't go unnoticed! Go Vol

I doubt it. They aren't really in a tight race with anyone on Mason and I think they want to get his measurables and want to see more out of him. They may wait until he plays some more to make sure he's what they want.

Not that this matters, but does Mason remind anyone else of Matthew Stafford. I think they look a lot a like in his profile picture.

Back to the subject, this kid makes some really nice throws on the run.

I think this kid is my favorite QB prospect right now. He is flying under the radar, but scouts have given great reviews about him recently. I think if he has a good season this year you will see his stock skyrocket.

Last year in the highest classification of Georgia football he threw 420 passes, completed an outstanding 70% of them, for 28 TDs and 10 INTs. I havent looked at the kind of numbers that our other top QB prospects have put up, but I would doubt there are many with better numbers than those, and against good competition.

I think this kid will start picking up more offers shortly and I think he would commit to UT if he was offered IMO as many times as he has visited the campus for practices and the O&W game.

"Name a route and I can throw it. I have the work ethic and mindset to get better every time I am on the field because I know there are kids out there that are working just as hard," he said. "I think my arm strength is my best asset and once I get into college and get in the weight program it is only going to get better so I think I have good upside as well."

Georgia is now interested in Mason:

"A few week ago, I had got nothing from them. But Coach Searels told my coach to have me call them and then when I did, he told me they were really interested in me. (Searels) then handed the phone to Coach Bobo who said they were going to recruit me," Mason said. "He (Bobo) has not received my film yet, so after he sees that, we are going to talk about what he thinks of me. Coach Searels had seen some of it, and he said he told Coach (Mike) Bobo that 'we have to have this guy.'"

"Growing up from here, Georgia is your dream school. That is where you want to go," Mason said. "You want to stay in state. There are few schools who could match what that (an offer from Georgia) would mean. It would be a huge deal."

Sounds like it time for Kiffin to pick up the pace with this kid if UGA is getting involved. By being in state, they will probably be the school to beat.

Even if offered by UT and he commits it sounds like he will back out and choose UGA when offered.

This has danger written all over it. He commits to UT and scares off some other QB and then he leaves UT at the alter on signing day!

I have a feeling that UT is the "few schools" who could match what a UGA offer would mean. I am certainly no QB evaluator.....but after seeing this guys tape compared to some of the QBs we HAVE offered......I am left wondering why he doesnt have a UT scholly on the table yet.

GAV: What other schools have you been hearing from? Any phone calls, letters, direct contact?

Mason: Yeah, phone calls. I've been contacted by Purdue, Duke, East Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, (Offensive coordinator and quarterback) Coach (Mike) Bobo called me from Georgia, (Offensive coordinator and quarterback) Coach (Jim) McElwain from Alabama. They both came to see me throw last week. Tennessee, I haven't been hearing a lot, but they tell me I'm 8 on their list of 50 quarterbacks. A lot of Conference-USA team like Memphis. Almost every Conference-USA team. Mississippi State, pretty much all of the SEC schools except for Florida. I think Florida's about it.

Mason: I've been to Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, Tennessee, East Carolina. I've been to North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and I think that's about it.

GAV: And of all those visits, what would you say has been the general synopsis of it? Any schools stand out? You really liked their campus or the surrounding area or anything?

Mason: Yeah, when I went down to Georgia, I was really impressed at the surrounding area. The community in Athens makes it feel like you're in college. It's a real college town. Like some of the campuses you go to you don't really get that. Some of them are in cities and others are way out in the boondocks. But, I know that has to do with football, but the college life when I went to Athens, I really felt like the whole community and student body was right there in Athens, a very, very college-like town. I was very, very impressed from the standpoint of speaking with Coach Bobo. A very down to earth man, truthful guy. Of course, he coached Matthew Stafford so the coach knows what he's doing. I was very impressed with Georgia. I don't know (UGA head) Coach Mark Richt, I haven't gotten the chance to speak with him, but I love his views and the kind of a guy is, the winning tradition they have down there. Then I went to Tennessee. I was really impressed with them and the offense they were coming in with, a Pro-style offense that (Head) Coach (Lane) Kiffin brought to Tennessee. He's had two Heisman trophy winners in Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush. It's an offense that puts guys in the Pros every year, year in and year out. The coaching staff at Tennessee, I don't know if it's going to get any better. The depth of the coaching staff. (Recruiting coordinator, defensive line coach, and assistant head) Coach (Ed) Orgeron, Coach [Lane] Kiffin, Monte Kiffin on defense, (offensive coordinator and offensive line) Coach (Jim) Chaney from the St. Louis Rams. That's who I was especially impressed with because he coached at Purdue and Drew Brees. So I was really impressed with Coach Chaney, his experience in the NFL. And Alabama and that winning tradition with Coach (Nick) Saban. It's nothing but winning down there and you want to go to a place that wins, wins, wins. So I've definitely had a lot of positives at the campuses I've been to, but then again, no offers so there's not much I can do.

So if UT told him he is 8th on their list of QBs, who are the 8 in front of him? I've got:
1. Heaps
2. Phillip Sims
3. Blake Bell
4. Scroggins
5. Sullivan
6. Hinder
7. Hendrix
8. Mason

Does this look about right to you all?

It was said on VQ that Hendrix was told Scroggins/Bell/Heaps were the only 3 firm QB offers. It would seem the Sims offer was a holdover and not a lot, if any contact was made by the new staff. There are several guys I've seen mentioned recently---Brennan, Smith, Miller. It'd be pure conjecture to make a pecking order for 4, 5, 6 and 7.

I'd like to know if Nottingham will be evaluated this year.

Tennessee, I haven't been hearing a lot, but they tell me I'm 8 on their list of 50 quarterbacks.

I would like to see that board.

Dawgs have way more talent and are way more deeper than we are at QB. If I think he would come if offered. I do't think he'd back out.Kinda like sticking it to them for waiting so long Same thing Tai'ler did by going to Stanford.

IIRC his uncle, or grandfather is a UT grad...? I think if we offered him, UGA would offer as well but I feel like we'd be able to sign him.

I stated before that he was my favorite QB prospect...after watching some of Heaps tapes, Mason is now my second favorite. I wish we would offer, because I think he is going to be a really good player...a sleeper
