just took in a junior day at AU.

"Auburn is the school I want to go to if they offer me," Eastland said.

His Dad was a lineman at Auburn but Martez is 2nd in the Chattanooga in rushing, getting close to 2000 yards this year. Ringgold won tonight so they actually get a playoff game.

considering i go to school with this guy i dont think UT should get him, he is a slacker and will probably be on academic probation for a while

Exactly. Everything I've heard about him wasn't good. He's a tough football player, but he has off field issues. I see him going to South Carolina.

Eastland Wants a Visit! That's from today's article in the Chattanooga Times Free Press!

Chattanooga Times Free Press | Eastland's options increase

Martez Eastland's schedule between now and national signing day on Feb. 3 just got busier. Since learning that he is academically qualified for NCAA Division I play,

When Derek Dooley was hired as Tennessee's new coach, Eastland asked Akins to send a copy of his highlight video to Knoxville in hopes of being asked to come for an official visit.

"I haven't heard from Coach Dooley yet, but I hope to soon," said Eastland, who rushed for 1,561 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, had 310 yards and three TDs receiving and currently is averaging a double-double in basketball. "I would really like to get to know him, and if Tennessee calls and wants me to visit, I would drop any other plans and go visit there.

If Tennessee somehow locked up Eastland, Rodgers and Nance that would send a message for future recruiting in the North Georgia area.

In that same article he said he thought certain members of the previous staff were idiots. He wanted to leave when they started ripping their shirts off and only talked about coming to play for them, didn't say anything about classes or the University.

Sounds like even though he has had some issues in the past he has managed to keep a good head on his shoulders. He apparently saw Kiffin for what he was when few of us did. This is just how things are. Not everyone likes the Hollywood/L.A. type of mentality. I particularly like what he said about the importance of school and grades. Sounds like UT material to me.

That is a pretty big boy. He could play LB. There are not many highly rated LBs in this class. Sounds like he likes Orange.

Hopefully, he will get his chance to visit. He is a tremendous player and is very physical. He would be a good one to slip into this class.

FBs and RBs know how to hit the hole and FBs with the physical contact. Wonder about his lateral speed.

As I said earlier this would send a message to NW Georgia if got Eastland and Nance & Rodgers especially with the big O'Lineman from Dalton next season a top priority or I would think he would be.

Like I've posted earlier, this guy is trouble. He has a rap sheet as long Fulmer's Krispy Kreme receipt.

This guy supposedly had academic issues. Those are now over.

People keep talking about other issues.

Markeith Ambles, Ahmad Dixon, Martez Eastland. Bring them all on...if Derek Dooley cannot make boys into men I do not want him as HC. Unlike our last coach he can talk about honor and integrity without being a massive hypocrite.

You're crazy. I know for a fact this kid is trouble waiting to happen. He's good, but is it worth wasting a scholly if he's just going to get kicked off the team?

I have a hard time believing Coach Akins would go out of his way to help someone that was supposedly that big of a pain. I'll see what I can find out. He's currently playing basketball and plays quite a bit for a 12 - 4 team.

Knowing him from his Boyd-Buchanan days, I agree with that. On the other hand, he never had a player of Eastland's caliber at Boyd, even though he had several good RBs come through that program.

good kid.. will make a beast of lb. Played a little mike and made the shifts for his high school team. Great athlete.

Martez could be a good kid if he had someone watching over him. He has not made great decisions, and I don't have any clue how his grades are good enough to go anywhere. There is noone in the area with the kind of talent he has, and thats why Akins has dealt with him. Also, I think some of his trouble came before Akins became coach.

I know a police officer that works for the county for one. And everything is public record. Maybe he's changed, but he does have a record.

The activity in Eastland's recruitment picked up substantially when word got out that he scored a 20 on his last ACT, which means he's qualified.

I don't know Martez from Adam, but if he's versatile and there's a remote chance of him getting coached up and he can stay out of trouble, he would be nice to help fill out this class, especially if he can play a little defense.

I think he could be a very good FB and short-yardage RB. He's got pretty good speed for 235 pounds.

I doubt he'll play defense if he did come here. FB all the way IMO. Still don't think we need to waste our time on him.
