disagree with a lot of what you said.
A) he runs standing straight up. You have to play a lot lower at the next level.
True for just about every HS RB including Bryce Brown. However, he does one things extremely well that negates this problem some. He doesn't get hit directly very often. Arian Foster had that knack and it helped him be very durable. This kid has it... but is much quicker and faster.
B) Just about every run he makes he tries to bounce outside and tries to avoid the middle of the field and contact. It works for him at that level because he is faster than the other kids but he won't be in the SEC, not even close. He doesn't appear to be a physical runner at all.
That is a classic RB coaching method. RB's are taught to break the LOS then find the sideline. That's virtually a prerequisite for being a "homerun" threat.
Often, this kid didn't have a hole. On plays like that, you're right. Those won't be gainers in the SEC.
C) when he gets caught he goes down very easily. He doesn't appear to like contact and that just won't work. You have to be able to get through the first tackle and he doesn't show that ability.
I disagree. He gets through the first tackle by avoiding it. He does an exceptional job of setting up blocks. He uses his quickness to avoid contact. I don't know if he "likes" contact or not. If he hasn't, he'll have to learn to handle contact... but don't confuse a very good capability with a deficiency.
D) He has good speed, but not break away speed. He does a good job of trying to find open lanes but his instinct is always to try to bounce the play to the outside when chances are there are plenty of holes up the middle.
That's what most RB coaches teach kids from youth football on up. Find the hole then find the sideline. Honestly on the plays he bounced outside... I didn't see the plentiful holes you're talking about.
He does appear to have break away speed... and did play against good enough competition to win a state title in GA.
All that said, sign him up. We need bodies.
I like RB's from GA. Generally they're going to have played against good or very good competition. They're going to have rec'd good coaching all their lives.
I would love to have him, Bennett, or preferrably both.
