'10 GA TE Brian Vogler

Is it just me, but after seeing Vogler committing to Alabama and Stripling committing to Georgia I think it is safe to say we are getting our butts kicked on the recruiting trail. I am tired of seeing 4 star players commit everywhere but to Tennessee. Namely a Quarterback. Am I way off base here? Encouragement welcome.

When you move your mouse pointer down to the bottom right over the time, does it say July 22, 2009?

At this time last year the two five-star players we signed in the last class were committed to Miami and LSU.

Most early commitments are from in-state prospects who choose to stay close to home (I know Vogler is from GA, but Columbus is right on the GA-AL border, so that's close enough for me).

UT will never lead the recruiting rankings in July due to the lack of in-state talent as compared to rival schools/states. It's still over 6 months until signing day. You never know what can happen between now and then.

Like it or not we our getting out recruited by UF, LSU, Bama, and UGA. There isn't any sugar coating it. That isn't a swipe at Kiffin. We came off a 5-7 season. He has been on the job for 7 or 8 months. But this conference doesn't wait on you. We need players in this class. Mainly a QB. We will see how it works out there is still time.

I never said we weren't getting out-recruited by those schools. I simply stated what I thought was the main reason why it's happening. There's also no sugar-coating the fact that high school talent in the state of Tennessee is generally inferior to GA, FL, LA, and AL.

Many people said we wouldn't have a top 25 class in '09, but a strong finish landed us in the top 10. When prospects get to see the new staff in action for the first time this year, I guarantee some heads will turn, including some who have already committed to other schools. We just have to be patient.

Honestly, I don't care. I don't want excuses. I want wins and I want wins soon. I want to win the recruiting battles but mainly I want to win on Saturdays. I think Kiffin has done a good job with some things up to this point. He has screwed up some as well. But what it all comes down to is W's or L's.

Alot of those W's and L's are determined in July on the recruiting trail and right now we are losing more than we are winning. At least agaist the top four teams in this conference and that isn't good enough. I honestly don't care how long you have been here or what. The losing has to stop. Yea it is awhile till Feb and things do change. At least I hope they change.

To expect a 5-7 team to recruit toe to toe with the defending national champs before a down of football has been played is absurd. Rebuilding this program from the state that it was in will be a process.
