I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on Zach Fulton. He was dominant at the Tennessee camp as well as the Illinois Nike camp, and most thought he would jump into the 250. What else does he need to do to prove his worth, and do you see him making the jump later? Thanks.
Zach is one of the players we went back and forth on quite a bit. We decided to keep him at a 5.7 three-star because we think overall he is a solid player off of film evaluation and the camp performances, we aren't ready to put him into the four-star pool. A future move up? That is certainly possible.
Recruiting fans like to just say "This player 'dominated' in camp" when really we found the player to be good, but not great. I don't know why, but the term 'dominate' seems to be thrown in there by a lot of fans as time goes by. I have heard recruiting fans say a player dominated when the film I shot of the player clearly shows otherwise.
Anyways, back to Zach, he had a good performance at Illinois NIKE, definitely one of the best offensive linemen there. Unfortunately, I was not permitted to film that event. But his performance doesn't necessarily mean he is a four-star. He is an above average D-1A prospect with the potential to be great, but we aren't ready to make that four-star call at this time.
But yes, I think it is possible he moves up later. - Greg Ladky
I saw that Fulton is now a 5.7 on Rivals...
A strong senior season and a good performance at an all-star game will get him the 0.1 needed for a 4th star...
And before anyone says it...it does matter when it comes to perception which is vital to landing some recruits....
These kids pay attention to who they're going to play with and one of the biggest things they have to base their opinion on are these ratings...
And I totally agree on the Brown comment...from what I hear, any scout who attended our camp and still thinks Brown is a better prospect than Fulton has no business being a scout
I posted this on the O.C. Brown thread and I'll post it again on this one.
O.C. Brown went to the camp with another player from Manassas named Julius Martin. Julius while a solid H.S. player is a DII college player at best. They put Julius with the "A Group", that is the group with, Stone, Fulton, Tait, Pair etc... O.C. was 100 yards from the main group. He was working with the general population of campers. There was something like 300 players at this camp and O.C. and Julius were clearly mixed up. I was in contact with coach O. on numerous occasions about him wanting O.C. to come to the camp. Coach O. also confirmed that they mistakenly got Julius and O.C. in the wrong groups.
There is no way you can compare O.C. and Fulton because they were never even close to each other.
I wasn't there so I can't tell you how he did but I'm guessing you guys ripping O.C. were not there either.
The star ratings are not for who is the best player today but who has the most college potential. O.C. Brown has NFL athleticism. He can dunk a basketball with 2 hands at 300+ pounds. He's been lifting weights for 7 months now.
Please stop trying to build your guy up by tearing someone else down when you have no idea what you're talking about.
Let's see...
Both players came to camp....one performed so well that he immediately became one of our biggest targets on the OL...the other performed so poorly that according to all reputable sources he hasn't been actively pursued by our coaching staff since...
You obviously have some sort of personnal tie to Brown...with your contact of our coaching staff on his account being evidence of that...
So...word of advice...when you're lecturing someone about avoiding personnal bias when giving an opinion...you might want to make sure you leave your own bias out of it...or at least try to hide it
Thanks for the advice. I am O.C. Brown's O-Line Coach. I have stated this from my very first post. Like many of you have said after missing on your 84th recruit (just counted them) it's July and it's not where your recruiting class/offer list starts. It's where it finishes. Time will tell for both UT and O.C.
I do not wish to carry on this debate in the Zach Fulton thread. He may read this. I know O.C. does. I'm sure Fulton is a fine player and I hope he has a great career as a vol.
70 Zach Fulton Senior OT 6'5 / 310
Fulton, a Tennessee commitment, mans the left tackle spot for the Vikings. Their offense has him pulling quite a bit. While he was able to have some effectiveness there, I ultimately do not think that is where he will make his living. He is a strong kid with good size and he does look to get into his man and finish them, leading me to think he is likely a guard at the next level. I do think it is possible for him to play right tackle. Once he gets into a college weight program, he should get even stronger and more powerful and I think he could develop into a great run blocker at Tennessee.
