'10 SC DE Corey Miller

Miller was an absolute suprise for me. I wanted him sooo bad and when he went to FSU I was in disbelief. I thought we could snab Willis and we did. This whole time I was reading how Miller was trying to persuade Willis to FSU, Willis was persuading him to UT! Right now the QB situation is the difference between 6 and 10 wins, Im tellin ya. Soon as we get a QB, (Watch out Scroggins!) Bray is solid though. This team is goin to be devastating.

There are really two reat things that came out of the Miller and Willis commit.
1. 2 Stud defensive players.
2. The prospect of actually getting to keep Delvin Jones on the offensive side of the ball. The guy could be a freak at TE.

I like your Delvin Jones part

This is huge for 2 reasons.

1. Miller is the best pass rushing DE in the 2010 class. Far and away. Anyone at TN's camp would tell you the exact same thing.

2. Now they have their future TE in this class as well IMO with Delvin Jones. He is going to be an unbelievably difficult matchup for teams with his size and speed combo.

+1

I live 8 miles from Byrnes High School and went to their spring game. Byrnes offensive line could not block Miller. Every time they tried to pass, Miller was to the quarterback in a hurry. He also caught a long pass as a TE.

Besides Bray, Miller excites me more than anyone else in this class (Ambles is real close though).

No love for Jacquese? He is going to eat offensive lines for breakfast. Quarterbacks for desert.

Love them all of course, I just think after hearing what he did @ UT's summer camp, he's going to be something special (Smith will be great as well, awesome motor!).

Our D line will be the sickest D line for years after just these past two years. If we pull these numbers on D every year. There will be Championships every year. Hard to loose a game when you keep the other team at zero points in every game.

Jacques and Miller and very similar players. We will (already have) the top DL class in the country

Lets just put it this way, UT had arguably more talent at their DL camp than any other camp in the country, and UT has ended up with 4 out of the top 5 DL from that camp, including the 3 most dominate (Miller, Willis, and Jacques). The other two being Copeland and TJ Stripling.

Defensive line MVPS

J.C. Copeland
Brandon Willis
Corey Miller
Jacques Smith

T.J. Stripling

Any chance Jacques or Miller end up at linebacker? Rivals has them at 225 and 227lbs while Copeland and Willis are 240 and 250.

Miller is a DE all the way but I could see Jacques being a Shawn Merriman type of guy. He could definitely play LB or play with his hand down. There's also a very good chance that one of Copeland and Willis play DT (if not both).

interesting point about Jacques being used as Shawn Merriman type. You can even mention Parys haralson at San Fran and now Robert Ayers at Denver. Parys has exploded onto the seen last season and to start of this season at the hybrid position. Monte comes from the NFL where they like to have those type of guys for matchup problems. I always wondered why college coaches didnt use those guys at those like that and then in NFL they become studs. Jacques would def fit that role

I dont think that would work well against a Spread team but could be a good lineup against a team like Bama who likes to pound it.

I was at camp. Miller was unbelievable. So were Willis and Smith.

Based on what I saw I felt Miller, Willis and Smith were elite prospects.

I'd have rated Copeland #4 at DE overall and Stripling #5.

I too think Smith could stand up some in college. He could be a very good outside linebacker IMO.

If Miller is the only one of our current DE commits that ends up actually playing DE then who else will we put at DE?

Jacques will play DE, no doubt. Like jmva said, he could be a Shawn Merriman type, but UT doesn't run a 3-4 like the Chargers, so that rules that out...

Your comparison to Shawn Merriman made me think about something. These defensive ends are so quick and athletic, do you think we'll see Monte incorporate any zone blitz schemes.

I don't know how much he uses that with this current group, but looking at the kids coming in, there's nothing defensively he couldn't use. Man it's going to be awesome watching this defense the next few years.

Gerald Williams was suppose to drop into coverage when ucla dumped that pass to the fullback for the td. Zone blitzes work better when guys cover their zones.
