Again, not really. Pac was as close as it gets to having club banger music, and even then, the music had meaning.

The two are not mutually exclusive, but guys that do club-type music are generally guys who aren't going to give you much, if anything, lyrically.

um, no. there are plenty of tupac and biggie songs that reference simply their jewelry/cars/girls/and slinging dope, which you said couldn't have been said better yourself when claimed that they do not rap about those things. they did, quite often. i'd guess a majority of their songs were dance beats with gangster lyrics i.e. nothing deep.

people focus too much on the quality of or breaking down the meaning of rapper's lyrics. if the sound production and beat isn't there 9/10 rap songs will suck regardless if the best writer alive is rapping. the ability to dance to the music is a pretty essential part of hip hop's foundation, so i don't get why so many people are all about these art rappers with basic beats.

Any clown with a mic can jump up and put words together like mad/glad/sad/dad. How about every so often we have a rapper that actually puts a story together? And trust me, REAL hip hop is 70% lyrics and 30% beats/hooks. I don't remember people dancing around to "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos" from Public Enemy or "My Melody" by Rakim and those are 2 hip hop classics.

Is that an insult? "The Message" is the ultimate example of what I'm talking about. It is nearly 30 years old and wasn't ever considered to be a club banger.

no, that wasn't an insult at all, you're just acting like a supreme authority.

the message can be danced to.

Sure Tupac had a few songs that had pop sensibilities but at his core he was an amazingly deep artist.

See " Brenda's Gotta Baby ", " Dear Momma ", " Shorty Wanna Be a Thug "...I could go on and on.

For every " I get Around " , there is 5 " I Ain't Mad at 'Cha ".

The song is from a whole different era of hip hop.

I guess it can be, but generally, those who enjoy the song are those who sit down and listen to it. I've never once heard somebody say that "The Message" is the song that gets them up on the dance floor.

You obouisly don't listen to any of the lyrics...who dances to a song about being on the brink of losing it?

I wouldn't put it past most of the rap audience nowadays, though. If you dressed it up with a new beat and a catchier hook, these fools might dance to it or bump it in the clubs.

There's a lot of it here for some reason. He's not my favorite nor do i think he's the best today, but he's good.

This....

And I will say Lil Wayne was ten times better 10 to 12 years ago than he is now but I still like what I've heard of him lately, which hasn't really been that much but I've still thought it was decent except for that "a millie a millie a millie a millie a millie" song which I couldn't/can't stand.

Wayne is a terrible rapper. The vast majority of the stuff listed on Billboard is by terrible rappers. It's the same as any other genre, though... Hollow, meaningless drivel with club-friendly overproduced music fronted by some clown(s) with visual appeal is what dominates the airwaves.

1. PM Dawn
2. Vanilla Ice
3. Tag Team
4. Dem Franchize Boyz
5. Souljah Boy
6. Shaq
7. Pharrell
8. Young MC
9. Lil Wayne
10. Kid Cudi

Would not consider PM Dawn rap. I would also say they were a pretty good Pop group.

As for the rest of your list, who the heck are these people? I know Shaq and Young MC and that's it.
