1000 Days Without a Budget

That's what you get for letting a bunch of obama voters run the country.

I've been Googling for articles. It's surprising that there are so few straight news stories about this given the Press' love for "milestone" stories. Hmmmm

If only we had elected McCain we'd be in horrible financial shape, but at least we'd have a budget.

Actually, no. The problem is the Dem senate. If McCain were there, he'd still be waiting for something to sign.

I don't understand. If the senate doesnt pass a budget, how are expenditures authorized ? What is the mechanism ?

The only lie in your link is Conrad's. The Budget Control Act is not a budget.

You have never been a stickler for accuracy, LG. But this one is pretty low, even for you.

It contained a budget.

Therefore, they passed a budget.

Two, in fact.

The claim that the Senate (or the Congress as a whole) has not passed a budget in 1000 days is simply false.

100 % false.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate passed a $1 trillion-plus year-end budget bill for President Barack Obama's signature as part of a congressional endgame also featuring action on a two-month extension of a cut in the Social Security payroll tax and jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed.

The bipartisan measure passed 67-32, wrapping together the day-to-day budgets for 10 Cabinet departments and military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The House passed the bill Friday.

It provides details to a budget pact reached last summer, holding the Pentagon to the smallest increase in recent memory while imposing modest cuts on most domestic agencies.

Stop with those pesky facts, Gramps. They don't want to hear it, and they won't even acknowledge it.

You know, my original question itt was genuine. How could they not pass a budget for two years and keep things going? I really wondered that.

And you would think that people would have wondered the same thing and perhaps checked the GOP talking point/falsehood/blog lie before posting it on this public forum.

Heck, I am embarrassed for you guys.

Didn't they, though? I mean, if they didn't pass the budget act until last summer, what were they doing for a budget up until that point?

Also Conrad calls it more stringent? What a joke. Really none of the cuts start happening until next year, and most of them won't happen until later in the decade. I'm willing to bet congress ends up changing their minds before most of those cuts go into place.

Thanks for the info, LG.

Gramps,

That wasn't a fiscal year budget. It was a collection of appropriations and continuing resolutions.

Obamacare was also a budget bill, thanks to the tomfoolery of congressional Democrats.

I gather they did this last one in a two year cycle so maybe it was that way two years before? Dunno', but that makes sense.

And yeah, have to agree on "more stringent" comment being doofusy. Better to just point out that the claim by the GOP folks was flat wrong and move on.

Except the GOPers are 100% correct.

I'll leave it to the forum to decide who is correct here.

Do you understand the difference between a budget and a budget item?

Congress has passed multiple budget items over the past 1000 days, but they have not passed a budget.

It's like if you sat down and came up with a figure and determined that you're only going to spend X amount of money on groceries over the next year. Unless groceries are the only expense you have, and your income is exactly equal to X, you haven't actually created a budget for yourself, you've simply budgeted the amount you are going to spend on groceries. That is a budget item.

So when a D stretches the truth or misrepresents it is "doofusy". When an R does so it is 100% false and a blatant misrepresentation.

Got it.

You do realize what the Senate is doing is avoiding putting forth a budget and using a series of continuing resolutions to keep spending going right? You do realize this is not the intended budgeting process right?
