Less than 10%. I like to be optimistic as much as the next Vol fan, but we need to be realistic about the situation

Suppose there are 6-7 names that we would hire and consider a so-called "home run". That means that if each hire is equally likely (which it's not) to be hired then anyone in the 25-30% likelihood range is very likely to be hired, relatively speaking.

I think Gruden is somewhere between 15-25%. In reality, though, the Gruden outcome is binary. Because he's seemingly the number one choice, his probability of being the coach is either 0 or 100% at this point based on all of the press.

As an institution, this is a chance to make AND dictate history--which is a rare chance indeed. We are supposed to back up the dump truck and pay this guy what he wants (within reason) which probably includes a long-term commitment.

FWIW, I probably didn't feel this way until September of this year. I was at the Akron game. While most stadiums in the developed world would be overflowing and at capacity with that kind of crowd, Neyland seemed empty if not literally than at least figuratively. It made me want to vomit. Why? My family's roots in Tennessee go back multiple centuries. Our implicit affiliation with UT goes back over a century. Our explicit affiliation (attendance and alumni) goes back over eight decades. Because this is Tennessee, support should never wane... I've been to a lot of crappy no-name-opponent games in my nearly 30 years of following UT football but I've never seen NS like that. This, simply speaking, cannot be the way--it is not our history and it is not our destiny. Football, in the state of Tennessee, represents so much more--and is so much richer--than the game itself.

Less than 10% but i'm doing a Constanza - thinking there's no way so the exact opposite will happen.

Gruden, baby. :)

Are we still going to spend $1.7M to $1.8M per year for our new head coach?

If so, don't look for UT football to do anything special for a LONG time.. I have written NASCAR off. They screwed up a good thing. I can't watch that crap they call racing anymore.. Now I feel like I'm being pushed down the same path with UT football.

If the UTAD and the "powers that be" (i.e. Cheek, etc.) don't get their "poop grouped" and FIX THIS MESS, then I will be doing the same with UT football. I'm not a filthy rich booster so as a fan it's the only 'voice' I have..

More importantly though, I love UT football too much to continure watching it die a slow and agonizing death..

There was a back-handed comment in there that completely went over your head.

No.. It didn't go over my head.. Backhanded as it was though, there is still quite a bit of truth in it.. Like many of us, I'm just tired of the whole mess and would like to see it fixed.. Academic SNOBS like Cheek and some members of the BOT need to get over themselves and understand that a healthy football program is nothing but GOOD for the university as a whole.

As 'smart' as some of these folks pretend to be you would think they wouldn't allow themselves to be involved in the ignorant little pissing matches that go on and screw things up..

names I've been hearing last few days are fisher and golden. guess we will see. could be different names in a few days..

When this is all said and done more names will pop up. Most that doubt Gruden think Hart will go with someone he has connections with (Smart, Fisher). Golden's name is coming up because he wants out of Miami.

If you think Akron was bad you shoulda seen the 40,000+ empty seats for Troy

Now that is what I call an embarassment.

Yeah I heard. Imagine if the fan base is disappointed with the coaching hire what next year's first three home games will look like: AustinPeay, Western Kentucky, South Alabama.

Gruden
Petrino
Smart
Golden
Tuberville
Patterson
Petersen
Strong
Cut
Fulmer

Whoever, I could really care less. Any of them give us a better chance to win in 2013. Just get it done so the guy can start working on the recruiting class.
