Those are some pretty solid offers, but I like our chance against that competition.

From the little part I could read at the bottom, it says that this kid's early leader is Georgia Tech. Of course, it was written by the Tech Rivals site.

GT is his leader...He has family that lives in the ATL and his parents are thinking about moving back. He also is best friends with 2010 signee Denzel McCoy.

"So far, Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Ole Miss were all here on Tuesday," Burton said. "Stanford, Notre Dame and Georgia visited on Monday."

Georgia Tech and Clemson have emerged as the team to beat, but the Vols are making a strong push following the offer.

"Right now Clemson and Tech are on top followed by Notre Dame and Tennessee. Those are the upper echelon schools for me. Outside of those programs, I am still looking around and I am not at the point of eliminating anyone yet. I haven't really narrowed things down or anything. I have seen some of the schools, but there are a few more places like Notre Dame that I want to check out in person before I make my final decision."

Clay is a excellent kid. He's looking for a school with great academics. He's taking a official to ND and he will be here at GT to spend some time in the Summer with McCoy.

Another N/R prospect by Scout. Blast me and say I'm not a true fan all yall want, and how we don't have the luxury of filling our classes early, we don't have in-state talent or the best...Rivals hasn't released their rankings blah blah blah, but the fact that our two committs are not ranked by Scout and numerous others we've offered aren't either that scares me.

I have and will continue to support CDD's recruiting efforts and I know he's a better talent evaluator than myself, for all those who say, "so you're a better evaluator of talent than our staff?" I don't care if CDD and this staff are better evaluator's of talent than myself, I care if they're as good or better evaluators of talent than Saban, Meyer, Richt, Chizik, etc. UT's teams won't be lining up against my recruits, they'll be up against their recruits. So the fact that a lot of our offerees are either N/R or 3* according to Scout and not on the 250 watch list for Rivals is and should be a major concern, unless all 28 of our recruits are going to be 3* diamonds in the rough.

There is a lot of time for their rankings to change. It's still early in the evaluation process.

Dear poster,

NR (not ranked) means they havent been evaluated on scout yet.

Sincerely,
Jay

Hey smart guy, NR (not ranked) means they havent been evaluated on scout yet....

pump your brakes and get out the fast lane

Hey smart guy, I know what it means. There's plenty of players year in and year out who NEVER get evaluated, therefore all we have to go by is their offer list, which I agree is a better determinant of talent than some guy watching film in an office. However, I could give two s**ts if my recruit's offer list includes USF, Rutgers, Purdue, WVU and even ND for that matter. We don't play those teams and the talent needed to beat those teams, even if we did play them, are remarkably lower than the SEC, I think you'd agree...smart guy.

so your judging talent based on offer lists before summer camps ?

No, I do not agree with anything you said

ps I changed my original replay cus I didnt want to be condescending mostly cus Im tired of hearing about guys not being ranked when Rivals hasnt dont a list yet and Scout hasnt even come close to ranking all the players

Really? That would have a lot more relevance if that was the case with this particular kid, wouldn't it?

Clemson and GT have the talent to compete in the SEC right now. I seem to remember Ole Miss hammering UT and beating UF since the Vols have.

Dude, you are an idiot just like AlaskaVol. The rankings haven't even came out yet! And before you say it, Scout's Rankings don't even count. They are s***. They want to be known as the "first" to release their rankings, which always looks like s*** this early in the recruiting season. I hate when idiots such as yourself try to act like they follow recruiting, but in reality know NOTHING about it. We have to recruit nationally and it takes a little thing called TIME to build the relationships with the higher ranked kids before they decide to leave their homestate and become a Vol. I wonder if you were b****ing this time last year when we had a whooping 2 commits as well, one was a Fulmer recruit(J. Smith) and the other a longshot to qualify that we ended up cutting ties with. Relax and just stay patient and give this staff a chance.

I disagree that Scouts rankings don't mean anything... but they will change after summer camps and then again through the fall. There's simply no way you can make definitive evals on all these kids minus one year of play and development.

Burton is a bigtime talent...GT wants him at OLB. He's very versatile and explodes off the ball.

I love coming on to a website for my alma mater and having my intelligence insulted by fellow "fans" and at times fellow alumni, just because I express a dissenting opinion on recruiting. Y'all really show how classy you are when you sit behind a keyboard and call people stupid, idiotic or tell them to STFU over their personal opinion. However, it kind of amuses me because there's little doubt in my mind that I possess more of an education than the majority of those insulting me. And FTR, none of us should pretend to fathom how much anyone else knows about or follows recruiting. Just because one has a Rivals/Scout account that doesn't make them a qualified recruiter.

People wouldnt have a problem if your personal opinion wasnt based on ignorance. Also education is not always an indicator of intelligence.
