Let's try to stay on topic please instead of turning this into a mudslinging contest.

bowlinggreenvol: Saban trusted Dooley's talent evaluations while at LSU, do you honestly believe that internet recruiting sites are better qualified to evaluate talent than our staff?

I'm not saying Dooley cannot recruit at all. What he did at the end of the recruiting cycle when hired makes it apparent what he's capable of. My concern is relying too much on diamonds in the rough and not going after a lot of the same guys our rivals are. People can say fail all they want, but there's tons of guys we've offered with ACC, Big East, medium tier Big 12 type offers that no one else in the SEC has offered. Of course we've offered some of the same guys as our Rivals, but these guys we seem to be leading for other than Kerbyson, Richardson and Worley we're their best offer.

P.S. the recruiting coordinator does the organizing and that's why they're in that role, not because they're superior recruiters. And LSU recruits itself in Louisiana and East Texas, plus that that staff also had Muschamp and Thompson and of course Saban. Can't give Dooley all the credit.

Anyways, Clay Burton does in fact have good offers. UT should definitely keep up with him and his progress. 6'3" 223lbs, to me, seems as though he could put on more weight, thus, become a lot stronger.

could Hinshaw ever even get close to Gran as far as recruiting Florida players? I know he isnt now but could he eventually get there.

IMO I would say no, after keeping up with recruiting last year for the 1st time I was amazed at the connections & pull Gran had in Florida, I really think we could have pulled alot of talent out of there if he had stayed. We were in on alot of kids even in places we never had connections before.

of course theres a possibility he can.

Gran's been doing this a long time so of course he is pretty much in rare air

It will just take a couple of years to build relationships. Hinshaw will be fine. He is well respected in FL.

I know I'm going to get burned for this but Eddie Gran is very overrated as a recruiter. There was a time early on at Auburn when he could really pull top guys from Florida all on his own but his last few years there he wasn't very successful and a lot of people were calling for him to be replaced. As for what he did for us last year, I think the rest of the staff had more to do with us being in on guys like Luc and Jones. TIFWIW.

Currently Burton has verifiable offers from a number of top programs including Clemson, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Florida, Stanford, Tennessee, and West Virginia. He admits programs such as Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Clemson, Tennessee, and West Virginia are sticking out the most.
Burton is described by Scout.com's Greg Voyt as follows:

"He possesses substantial size, athleticism, and strength. He moves laterally extremely well for a DE and can run down ball carriers from the backside. While he is a terrific athlete, he can improve his speed and quickness, he needs to become more explosive. He has a lot of experience and uses a variety of moves to his advantage, Burton is equally adept at playing the run and pass."

Five on top for ESPNU 150 Watch List defensive end Clay Burton

Top Sunshine State prospect Clay Burton (Venice, Fla.) updated ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com on the latest surrounding his recruitment.

Other programs including South Florida, West Virginia, Rutgers, Purdue and Stanford have also offered.

Burton registered 80 tackles and 12 sacks during his junior campaign.
