Chamberlain sophomore defensive end James Wilder Jr., son of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back James Wilder, picked up his third offer Monday when Florida football coach Urban Meyer entered the race for the rising prospect while visiting the campus, Chamberlain assistant coach Brian Turner said.

Wilder, who led the Chiefs in tackles (145) and sacks (15), was named to the Tribune’s All-Hillsborough County first-team. Tuner said Tennessee offered Wilder last week, and during this past season, South Carolina became the first school to offer.

Rising junior and defensive end James Wilder Jr. has withdrawn from Chamberlain, Chamberlain athletic director Richard Scionti confirmed.

Scionti said Wilder withdrew on Monday.

Wilder, a 6-foot-2, 220 pound athlete and son of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back James Wilder, already has offers from Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, and South Carolina.

Wilder, who led the Chiefs in tackles (145) and sacks (15) this past season, was named to the Tribune’s All-Hillsborough County first-team and Class 5A All-State Defensive second-team.

He was also selected to the 2008 MaxPreps Sophomore All-American first-team.

Several sources say he plans to enroll at Plant.

6'2" 200 lbs just seems much more like a safety or outside linebacker than a defensive lineman to me. This guy is like the same size as montario hardesty

He will have a great work ethic,,, his dad was not a work horse, he was MULE. He carried the rock and gained something like 10000 yards when the Bucs were called the Yucs. If he is 75% of his dad we will have a starter if he comes at whatever position he fits in at.

Anyone with a decent reputation out of Plant should be recruited by UT. Regardless of Talent, that might be one of the better pipelines we could get going in Florida. (Count out Glades/Pahokee for a few years...)

UF has been all over this kid. He is an absolute beast and could play multiple positions in college. I have also heard that UF wants him at RB.

It was easy to see why the powerfully built 6-2, 219-pound running back/linebacker from Plant (Fla.) High already reports a staggering 43 offers.

Wilder broke down his top five in order: Miami, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and South Florida.

It would be great to sign this kid next year period. Tremendous athlete watched him in the state championship and he was a man amongst boys
