'11 FL DE James Wilder Jr.

I heard he's shaky to FSU now. What's the deal?

Apparently, FSU is still going after RB's...(including Lane), and Wilder isn't too happy about it. He wants to play RB, but I think others want him to play defense. It MAY be that he is thinking since they're still recruiting RB's they are not telling him the truth about where he'll play, and he may be looking at other options.

Could be way off, just a guess.

you couldnt be any more right. FSU is rumored to break the news to him at the last second about him moving to the other side of the ball.

True that. I mean, certain prospects when they are on the high school level don't realize where they are better suited. It's only until they get to college that they realize they are more successful at another position.

I think for instance, Cam Clear is one of these. We are going to let him try TE, and who knows, he may be very successful there, BUT, he may find that he is not, and may be more inclined to try OT. Don't know.

But Wilder certainly is a good talent at RB or DE.

We're getting pretty thin at RB with Oku leaving, I definitely wouldn't mind letting Wilder at least start out there.

Wilder has been one of the key recruiters for FSU. He maybe unhappy with the fact that he may not get a "true" shot at RB, but it's been pretty much a consensus that he will be a LB at the next level.

Here's a question that has been on mind for a couple days. Is he that bad of a RB prospect that we wouldn't give him a real shot? Yes, we need LBs but we need RBs too. Since the staff seems to be set on getting another back, and as far as we know doesn't have a firm footing with anybody else, what are the chances they would honestly recruit him to play RB first? If he doesn't win a spot in the rotation, then move him to LB. Of all the teams he would hypothetically consider it looks like the Vols has the weakest RB situation. It could be a win-win situation for all involved.

Don't know what the staff is thinking, but I would definitely give him a try at RB if I was UT. He isn't too bad at all. In fact I was very impressed with the way he ran at the AA game. He was just as effective running as Crowell or Bellamy was IMO. Now I think he is 100% at LB at the next level and could be playing on Sundays if he makes the switch, but it's worth a try to start him off at RB IMO.

That is what I was thinking. If you look at the Noles depth chart and look at ours it is kind of obvious which would give him a realistic shot at playing RB. And there is this point, most of the time if a recruit washes out at his position (like Oku for example) it is waste of everyones time. With JW if he washed out at RB he has legitimate pro potential at LB. It's is a no lose situation for UT.

BHSN spoke to Wilder via text and he jokingly downplayed those rumors, "my commitment is firm (to FSU)."

He added that he is "excited" about making his 1st official visit to Tallahassee to meet with the Seminole coaching staff this weekend.
