'11 OH DE Jesse Hayes

No doubt. Not only did he do nothing in that game, but he's been that way since he was a freshman at Moeller. I've probably seen him play 15 times since he was a freshman there and have yet to see him stand out or have a big game. He just disappears once the game starts.

How is rated so high...I understand who his dad is but if that is truly the only reason then these recruiting services are really jeopardizing their credibility on this one

I think his father and uncle are huge factors in why he is rated as high as he is. They played in college and I think NFL and these analysts probably figure he has the genes. It definitely helps him in his rating. I have no doubt about that. Plus Moeller is a "name school" up here so that probably helps some too.
You couple those factors with him having good size and I guess that is how he gets his rating. He is a legit 6'5 230 or so, even though he doesn't look all that strong to me. He's a 3* 5.5 type in my opinion. No higher. I thnk Scout has him rated considerably lower than Rivals does.

Hayes is #17 WDE on Rivals and #50 DE on Scout. He's got an impressive offer list, but it is curiously missing a few top schools and you'd have to wonder if he's a fallback for many of the top level programs. He certainly wouldn't be the first kid to end up with a host of offers primarily based on size and genes.

Odd considering the reason they didn't rate Kerbyson a four star was they considered him too "raw". I just don't understand the rhyme or reason this year behind Rivals' ratings.

Kerbyson being a 3* 5.7 is baffling to me. You could call 99% of 4* Offensive Lineman in this class the exact same.... "Raw", lacking strength or whatever. The guy is athletic, has great footwork, good size and has a great offer list. I'm not following how he's not a 4* prospect.

I might be new to posting here but I am not new to keeping up with recruiting. To me the offers say as much or more than stars. I look at stars, but if I see UT going after a 3 star and Bama, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, USC, etc. and all the other top schools are offereing, then I think this will be a good one to get. I trust all of the coaches evaluations a little more than the recruiting websites.

I agree. Offer lists are by far the best way to get a gauge on a prospect. If all the heavyweights want a kid, evaluated him and have offered, you can bet you are more than likely getting a good one.

As long as those offers are commitable I agree.
