11' PG Kevin Ware

To the people that are worried this might be just another Selby, think again. These guys are completely different. Ware has good ppl around him and if there was ever any decommitment it would be a legit cause. It won't be as nasty as the Selby situation. And as of right now I don't see a reason for concern on if he'll stick with his commitment, unless we somehow hit rock bottom the next 2 years on the court.

I don't know that there is reason for excitement on early commitments. When you have a year to wait until you sign, lots and lots of things can happen. I am happy that we are recruiting this level of player, but let's see what takes place a year from now. I would much rather have heard that Harris committed to sign this month!!

The excitement is because 90% of the time, they stick. The Selby deal was unusual because we did a better job on him early and then the basketball whores came after him PLUS he was willing to listen. Ware is already a five star player with a lot of interest and without the sketchy people involved.

Guys I don't claim to be a basketball recruiting expert so I want to pose a question for ya'll; Why are basketball players seemingly more firm in their commitments than football players? (Selby the exception lol)

On average, a college basketball program will sign 2-4 recruits per year. In football, you're looking at an average of 25 recruits per year. In football, when you're bringing in that many kids, you're going to have a few change their mind every year.

Thanks. Any chance this kid pulls a Selby or is he firm? I know we've basically gotten commitments from his whole AAU team for 2011 so that should help, right? :birgits_giggle:

Don't laugh too hard. A program could be very successful grabbing the top two kids out of that program every year. The city of Atlanta and surrounding metro area are one of the top 5 youth basketball prospect areas in the country. The Atlanta Celtics own a strangle hold on getting all the top prospects.

Can't remember who the guards were, but 5 or 6 years ago their front line was Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, and Randolph Morris. Just something to think about.

I'm just laughing at how ironic it is that we get 3 prospects from the same AAU team. Trust me, I know how good that program is and I'm glad to have all of these guys on board.

Darius Washington played the point on that team and went on to Memphis. Can't remember the other but he ended up in the SEC I think. Two went straight to the NBA and the other three played at D1 majors. That's nasty.

Ware seems to be as solid as it gets. However, a lot can happen in a year so we'll just have to see how it all plays out.

Seems like Ware is more of a combo guard than a true point, but he is certainly a talent.

I would actually consider him a true point. He may have the size of a small 2 guard - but that doesn't make him one.

I was basing my evaluation off this:

ESPN.com Recruiting Coordinator Joel Francisco had a chance to watch Ware at the 16U USA Basketball mini-camp in October.

“Kevin is a very promising combo-guard prospect with high-level athleticism and a frame that should fill out nicely in the future. He has a wiry frame with long arms and he’s extremely quick and bouncy.

“He excels in transition where he can attack the rim and has excellent body control in traffic.”

Fair enough. He is a good passer and attacks the rim well. He could be a very good 2G for us if his shot improves and he grows a little.

"He's really good. You win SEC titles with players like Ware. Tennessee is on a number of lists for big guys, but it's still a bit early to assess their chances. Things will be much clearer after the summer"

Interesting isn't it?

Good point. However, you might want to check out what I said after he played in the Summer of '10 and proved he was never going to be any more than an athlete masquerading as a basketball player. It certainly wasn't that my opinion changed because he reneged on his commit to UT.

nope, it changed once you got more aggressive in your crusade against pearl. suddenly pearl could do nothing right and all our players and commits sucked. the daily flaming was never good for the program. a lot of true vol fans understand that.
