'11 TN OL Hunter Long

Unless Dooley has some in with the family or something happens to make them not happy with UGA, he will be there bc of his family pull.

Several local coaches that his school competes against have told me that Hunter is a better prospect than Hunter.

Did you notice the earlier post which talks about he brothers online writing about how hunter likes Tennessee? Maybe not so much a lock...

Tell me how that worked out with the OL from Olive Branch. He was a major UT fan, yet he went to another SEC school.

Its will be a family thing for this kid. Just like it will be in '11 when we get the MUS OL (Still) whose dad was an All-American at Tennessee. Best part of that for TN, is that the '11 kid is going to be a much better prospect than Long.

Was saying that it is not a forgone conclusion and there have been many sons who didn't follow parent allegiances.

I have it on the very best of authorites on the subject of Hunter Long he is NOT a UGA lock, yes his brother (#2 ranked prospect in Tennessee last year) is red-shirt freshmen at GA. His dad as reported DID NOT play at GA his dad played at Memphis State.

We have a chance at this very fine young man. Don't be thrown by the photo looking so young, most likely it was taken when he was 15 years old.

STOP SAYING HE IS A GA LOCK! I know he has visited Knoxville during a game last year and came away impressed...and actully grew up very fond of the VOLS. Get him Coach Dooley!

PS I have never posted on this site and came on here to clear this up

Wonder how everyone thought his dad played at Georgia? Not that I don't believe in Dooley, but that is good news!

Not true, UT is in the hunt for Hunter. His dad did not play at UGA. The kid is fond of the VOLS. It would help if people knew more about him before posting. I can see why some of the local coaches would conlude he is headed to UGA, but that is only their opinion which is not based on anyone actually telling he is headed to GA.

Not sure how that got out but I know the family and he played at Memphis State (before it was just Memphis).

I promise you they are reading the post here and FYI both former Coach Kool-Aid and Coach Dooley have shown great interest. Hounddog thinks this youg man would bring, talent, plus a lot of heart to the VOLS. But the important thing here is to promote to the Vol Nation his recrutimnet is wide open!!!

I tried looking for the talk from during his brothers recruitment but he made it very clear back then hes not following his brother and he was wearing UT stuff back then. Seems like he was even asked where he wanted to play ball and he said UT.

According to TOS, Hunter Long will be here for Jr Day...And Hunter is quoted as saying he is a huge Tennessee fan and grew up loving the Vols.

“I have always loved Tennessee,” the younger Long said. “I have been to their campus a lot, to a lot of games; I grew up loving the Orange and White.”

“The old staff was recruiting me a lot,” Long noted. “Coach Dooley was supposed to come by the Thursday before signing day, but had to cancel. We have spoken to Coach Charlie Baggett and they seem very interested in me.”

“I want to go where I fit in,” Long admitted. “Georgia is an option, but I’m the type of person to do my own thing.”

Per Scout... He holds an offer from Memphis.

Is it just me, but it seems like there is always some glitch with this staff where they just do not seem to get in touch with these players. At first I kind of swept it under the rug but more and more players are starting to all say the same thing. Interesting..

I think there was a winter ice storm in Memphis in the latter part of the week right before signing day. The same bad weather that kept Damien Robinson from visiting Knoxville that weekend.

If I remember correctly, Dooley has some ties and connections with UGA football....and Richt won't be there past 3 more years.... just sayin

So what you are saying is either a) he's been promised the UGA job if he'll sabotage UT or b) he can do a poor job at UT and then somehow get "promoted" to his "dream job"?

Also IIRC, Vince Dooley was nudged out of UGA... maybe not quite as hard as Fulmer but similar.

Correct. And I would not worry about Derrick Dooley leaving for GA anytime soon. Richt could be gone after next season, for all we know. I just don't see DD pulling a 'Kiffin' on us. He might love it at Tennessee and make it his career. I would worry about Muschamp first.

Who is this Muschamp fellow?

I seem to recall someone with a similar name turning down the UT job last month, or maybe he was never offered, but I soon forgot all about the guy. That who I'm sposed to be worried about?

There was some bad blood involving the Dooley's and UGA when Vince left. It was the way he was pushed out. From the way I understand it I do not think it will be much of a consideration even if the job comes available in the next couple of years. I could be wrong but I think Dooley will stay as long as we want him.

On Arkansas: "I loved it. We got down there Friday night at about one in the morning - me, my quarterback and my receiver," Long said. "We went and toured the campus with all the coaches. There were only 12 recruits there, so we got a lot of one-on-one time. We got to meet Coach Petrino and talk to him for a while. I was with Coach Klenakis most of the day, he's the offensive line coach, and Coach Johnson was with us most of the day.

"All the facilities are top notch, the best in the country. I really like all the coaches. They seem very down to earth, and in the position meetings I learned a lot in just 20 minutes," he said. "I would have to say either the offensive line coach or the facilities [stood out the most]. I mean, the weight room is just unbelievable, 110 yards, it's the best in the country."

"I'll probably go to their spring practice and Alabama's, and then I'll be done for a while until I start going to camps," he said. "I'm not really sure if they're close to offering, but I talk to Arkansas and Mississippi State a lot, and I talk to Alabama a lot. Those schools seem kind of close if they were going to."
