'11 TN OL Hunter Long

“I grew up orange and white, I have always been my own man,” Long told InsideTennessee.com. “Just because my brother goes to Georgia doesn’t mean I will. I want to go out and build my own reputation.”

“It was good to see him (Baggett) come by the school,” Long said. “Hopefully my recruitment by them will pick up.”

Long attended the Vols' Junior Day and came away a little disappointed in his experience.

“I was hoping to get the chance to meet Derek Dooley and the offensive line coach,” Long explained. “It was one of their first events and everyone didn’t get a chance to meet the new coaching staff. It was a little disappointing; I will be honest with you. They haven’t recruited me as hard as several other schools have.”

“He brought a camp invitation by the school,” Long said. “Right now I’m not sure what camps I will attend yet. We haven’t made out my summer schedule.”

Is it just me, but it seems like there is always some glitch with this staff where they just do not seem to get in touch with these players. At first I kind of swept it under the rug but more and more players are starting to all say the same thing. Interesting..

How do you feel about it now?

Remember that chunky little guy in the movie Sandlot--the kid that played catcher?that's who he looks like.

Love to see him in orange

He looks like an O lineman, a baby O lineman, but when he grows up he's going to have that big mean knarly look about him.

They don't want Hunter Long. He has offers from Memphis and Murray State right now. The same people that are complaining that the staff isn't recruiting him would be complaining if they offered him and he committed.

Maybe it's just me but I don't remember this many recruits coming away disappointed in the past. I mean I support Dooley and hope he does great but I can't remember so many negative stories.

Part of it is a matter of who you hear about. You heard a lot of recruits who loved the whole Wild Boyz stunt, but you didn't start hearing about the people who were turned off until Lane left.

Long was offered by UGA and committed on the spot.

His only other offers were from Memphis and S. Miss.

Dumb take.

lol - didn't this kid come out and say he was definitely not a UGA lock because of his brother - and was actually a Vols fan growing up?

I noticed the kid didn't have a UT offer.......just wondering........has he camped at Tenn? He attended Richt's camp last week and was then offered. 6'4 295 3*** on Scout. Has anyone seen him play?

I am so glad you guys wasted a scholarship on this guy. That will just give UT one more recruit we take from GA that will actually be worth offering a scholarship.

The Richt / Fulmer similarities continue to add up. This has another Jermaine Kent / Benji Shuler written all over it.

You all landed a good one when you got his brother...not so much with this one

We have been under the impression that he is not a major BCS prospect, especially for someone of the caliber of UGA. He is nowhere near the level of his brother.

Actually Long is not currently rated by rivals so he is a 0 star. I don't think UT was that impressed and looking at his offer list there's a reason for that. Not trying to be mean, but UGA will probably be his only big offer and that's because of his brother, IMO. As stated on this board many times, Richt is to loyal for his own good and Fulmer version 2.0

If Rosanne Barr and our OL Coach Harry Hiestand had a baby Hunter Long would be his name!

wasted?.......most 3-star recruits who earn PT make the biggest impacts playing the oline. Searles has done just fine with Boiling and Jones ..... both 3's coming out of HS. I trust Coach Searles opinion here. He evaluated the kid and offered. Maybe it would help if your UT staff actually met the recruits at the next camp.
